It's hardly 'essential' is it? It's useful but if you're buying a second hand car then the overall condition of the vehicle is what's 'essential' any extras are bonus.
If buying a new car however, for the £50 then I would class it as a wise act!

The only real beneficiaries are those that have factory sat nav as that's where the Highline comes into it's own. Having said all this though I have seen plenty of young lads buy cars that have really high specs and they treat the vehicle appalingly and the cars look like skips inside, so to them it may well be essential as they'd be more desperate for bragging rights down the local boozer.

Played with it for the first few days to set it all up - e.g. how long the lights stay on etc

and probably will not touch it again as it is all now set to my liking

Hardly an essential option in my eyes, just a nice to have

^I agree. The one i use at work has it mine does not. Its not something i miss. I set mine up with VAGcom when i first got the car and have never really felt i needed the highline option to tinker with it since.

its one of those things that you would miss if you have had it bit like sky+. doesn't really add to the driving pleasure but nice to play with. would deffo spec it again, £50 well spent.
