Its been replaced with a 325D M Sport , the wifes motor so don't drive it very often, but to be honest its a totally different class in terms of build quality and ride, and nothing much to note in performance either, GTI slightly quicker off the line, but in gear the Beamer will murder it.

My Beemer is not reliable.
The ABS pump failed
The rear coil springs keep cracking
Numerous engine sensors have failed
The seats ripped
It needs new discs each year
The steering rack needed replacing
The fuel tank was replaced
A high pressure hose to the steering failed

I bought it band new and it has done less than 55,000 miles.
The paint is good though.
Currently digging a bunker.

Not my experience mate, but each to their own, the ingear pull of the diesel is not matched by the GTI, GTI accelerates quicker than the 325 from standing start, but where the torque is used by most drivers ie overtaking, then the diesel engine has much more to play with, anyway for a shopping trolley it suits the wife. (and yes it is the more powerful 3l 2008 engine)

I forgot to mention the central locking has stopped working and one of the electric windows has stalled.

BMWs are just not as good as people say.  My Jaguar was way more reliable.
I don't expect much from my VW either, just another German brand.

I have to add, my co-worker has a BMW, and she says its a nightmare - always having problems with it.
Then again, I know someone else who is very happy with his beemer.
I guess its just the luck of the draw and the same for any car no matter which make - cant expect all cars to be perfect. Hit and miss etc.
When I got my Ford everyone told me not to due to the saying that Fords are alll unreliable - yet Ive had the Ford for 8 years now and its never let me down!

As I stated earlier, the build quality of Golfs varies car to car, but I've owned BMs continusly for over 20 years now, and as with all German cars the great reliability issue is a myth in my opinion, I've had good and bad ones.

want something that hardly ever breaks buy Jap, but they are not for me

Guess it must be luck of the draw... A customer of mine bought a brand new ford mondeo about 10months ago. It still goes back to the garage on a regular basis. He is sick to death of it, constantly failed electrics... even had all the lights go out at night once. Hes so sick of it he just wants to give it back!!

I would suggest not buying a new model/shape as soon as they come out.. but waiting for a couple of years until they have fixed all the problems and made their little changes like they tend to do :nerd:
