You mean like a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX (only .04 seconds quicker on the nurburgring) or a subaru imprezza (slower round the nurburgring)?

Sorry but the R26R is not 'some french sh!te', anyone that thinks so is a badge snob and has limited knowledge of cars imo, its an incredible car that excels at what it is made for. (evo 6 would be quickest then evo IX in 360 spec)

Im not arguing over it, im making my point a MK5 golf GTI (and R32) are as far away from hardcore as you can get! R32 is the perfect everyday car for me thanks, if i could afford an R26R as a second car for the weekend i would be a very happy man (although i will probably just get an E96 M3 when im 25 instead lol)

Nothing wrong with abit of harmful banter on a forum mate! Gets boring telling everyone about revo maps and how DSG works all the time

For a two seater the Renault is a bit slow.
Not many will put their money where their mouth is for the RwhateveritisR

After owning a raft of French cars, I can say that the main thing that lets them down is the electrics (still). As to whether or not it's hardcore, hmm. True the Golf seems to be the best of all worlds, not really hardcore. Coming from a modded Subaru (and that WAS hardcore - in so many good and bad ways lol!! ), the older you get, the more you feel the need (and want) some comfort etc (IMHO)
I'll be interested to try the Focus RS (if possible). The new S3, quick, comfy but meh..... RS4 <dribble> oops, trouser accident. Pricey!! sorry, off-topic ;)

The Scirocco, awful, AWFUL car.  Civic Type R...hmmm. not sure tbh. The Renault looks intriguing but I would have major reservations about reliability. Not doubting the performance etc...when it works

Anyhoo, BACK ON TOPIC.....

What I don't like about the Golf?

The dealers. And the unwillingness to even perform the basics such as communication regarding a sale. The 1 dealership I've been waiting for a deal price for....ooo nearly 3.5 weeks  No, I'm not going to call them - they STATED twice (I popped by on my way home from work) that they would call.

The other dealership, wouldn't even return my call. There is one ray of light - I'm awaiting a dealership call (the conversation has been going (off and) on since last Saturday - Wrexham VW. They've got a VIP function which has everybody running around in circles. Although, by the time they do get back in touch, I fear we'll be into the next month - new targets etc.....

It's almost like they DON'T want to sell cars

SO, yes. The dealer network seems to be very poor (on my findings of 4-odd, so far)

Back up whats been said. After 5 years of Mk5 Golf Ownership 2 in 140TDI and 3 in GTI,

the build quality varies massively from car to car, general creaks and rattles being the most annoying,
with the top dash vent the main culprit

followed by auto lights and wipers with a mind of their own, water poring into the front windows, water into the rear hatch, both when opened.

White worms attacking the Monzas, wheel center caps, rear hatch handle,

DSG box deciding it likes to go into 1st instead of 2nd and rev its nuts off,

and as mentioned the back up , or lack of it, from dealers and VAGUK. The VW dealer network is an absolute disgrace in this day and age.

After all that enjoyed the GTI drive, but would never buy another VAG product again. build quality is just too low.

05 GTI DSG, Steel Grey,Monzas,Xenons,Leather etc.,  SOLD
