Hi, I am looking to buy and fit a VW MFD2 satellite navigation unit to my GTI Edition 30. This will replace the VW RCD300 BVX CD PLAYER unit, does anyone know if I need to buy Fascia Adaptors? or will it just replace the cd/stero with no problem? Thanks

Should be a straight swap in terms of size/dimensions but no idea whether you'd need extra harnesses to fit it.

no parts needed to fit it mate - just fitted one in my Dads R32

here is a quick guide

clip the top centre speaker/vent off (prise it out but careful not to break clips)
then one torx screw holding a plastic retainer in, then unclip
then 2 torx screws holding top of centre dash on
then 2 torx screws holding bottom surround on
once removed, this reveals 4 torx screws holding the unit in

very easy really, just take your time :)

But what about the GPS antenna - because on a car with just the RCD300 or RCD500, then VW didn't fit it?

Here's a good DIY of the sat nav install. He has the GPS antenna come out above the vent on top of the centre console.

But you need to be a registered member of that site.

You would get far better info on the dedicated VW Navigation site - www.VWnavi.com - and you can view all their posts as a guest without needing to register.

You don't necessarily have to mount the antenna on top of the dash, i lodged mine inside the dash in a small void just to the top left of the unit, and have had no reception issues at all. But that may be down to the quality of the GPS antenna itself.

I fitted my antenna on the right hand side, under the grill on top of the air vents.  Usually sits on at least 9 sats
