Right then quick update, the Police have found the car, and they say it appears undamaged, but I guess until I see it myself then I'm not getting my hopes up.
The Police have been really helpful today, and I think a little bit of faith has been restored in them from my point of view.

Did you take out a GAP policy?

yeah i would say take out gap policy and don't park too near your house, so unless they meticulously watch you it's too much hassle to work out where the car is based!!!!

i really do wish though, they'd give out heavier sentences for this type of thing

most people on here for example spend every penny they have getting a nice car, i know i did but all they think is "if they can afford it then it don't matter"!!!!!!!

it would be nice to run over their foot or something as punishment [going about 70 mph though]

Cheers for the thoughts guys (and claire lol!) yep I hope I never get to see the car again in all honesty, book value is what they normally pay, but what exactly is book value?  I have access to CAP and glasses valuations via HPI tradeweb, so which price am i looking at, retail value or trade in?

OK, UK insureres must only use prices to change.  So if you had a fully loaded GTI, then they must provide a payout which could see the insured in an identical car of identical spec.  So if they try to use any 'trade' values, then they are pulling a fast one.

Anyway, good news that your car has now been found.

Cheers for that, makes me feel a little better, as I still don't know the condition of the car yet, I was requested to bring the spare key down to the holding pound so the Police can gain entry to do their stuff (car was recovered locked up) I asked if I could see the car, but was denied access, as public aren't allowed into the storage area.

Glad its undamaged as they say and thank god no one was hurt!, sure you will go over it with a fine tooth comb!
Just watch for boobie traps, we had our work van stolen in the daytime- recovered 9 months later- Razor blades behind the door handles.
