I need to buy a garden shed so I can clear out my garage, but I will deffo be keeping the car in the garage most of the time. I have an electric garage door and its pretty impossible to open the garage door without the remote, unless you cut a hole in it and operate it from the inside! No keyholes in the door - nothing. Made sure it was going to be secure before I had it put in a few weeks back. Also had all the windows and the front door to my house changed just before Xmas, so they are also pretty damn secure. On top of that, although I dont have a house alarm, I have small alarms at the front and back doors, so if they are opened a high pitched alarm goes off straight away.

I always keep my keys in the cupboard, in my room upstairs, along with the garage door remotes, and my wallet! If some fcuker is gonna try get at any car, they'll have to get through a heavy door or window, the alarm, and then me, and the steel bar under my bed, first ;)

Later on in the year I'll be buying another cheaper car, maybe a used A Class or somet, for the wife, which will be parked in the drive in front of the garage, to double the protection ;) lol. Pretty sure I've got all bases covered, but then again, you never know with these thieving scumbags.

Although the area I live in is pretty secure and burglary etc is a rare occurance, as I said, you can never be too safe in todays world. Sad, but true.

I live in a very low crime rate area, I have mine on the driveway at the moment as the garage is full of crap!
But I get a bit paranoid if I hear a slight noise outside at night as its always so quiet where I live.
I park my girlfriends saxo infront of it for the extra security and sometimes my dads infront of that! No buggers goina wanna make the effort to grab it then I reckon!!

Isn't it better that they find the keys than put a knife to your throat to get them though?

Yup.

Would debadging help make the car less desirable to thieves?

I reckon so.  And a more 'boring' colour like reflex silver will be less eyecatching compared to say red.

Am hoping keeping the GTI in the garage will keep it safe as unless someone follows me home or happens past when I'm leaving, then they won't know what's in the garage.

If I had a big enough drive I'd buy an old banger to keep outside as a decoy.

Wish I wasn't a worrier!

Get a decent Tracker fitted then - www.Tracker.co.uk - then if anyone does nick it, not only will you get your car back, but you are highly likely to see the scumbags behind bars too.

My car is usually trapped in by 2 other cars now so be pretty difficult to get at it, all the doors have had extra latches put on them only being able to open them from the inside and some kind of special locks so if they do use mole grips on it them it snaps into place, leaving the door locked.

Thats how they got in before by snapping the locks on the conservatory. We also have a house alarm which doesnt seem to deter some people, cctv and the gate is always chained up.

Used o have a post in the ground until the police took it as evidence.

Got a nice big machette under the bed too.
sorry but my vaux looks far better than the mk5 gti, thats why i bought it  faster too

Has anyone heard of a GTI being stolen by breaking directly into the car, rather then stealing the keys first??
Is the GTI well secure in itself?

I've got to admit, I've been through the whole car-theft paranoia thing :( Had several high-powered Scoobs.

Had an alarmed garage with heat sensors, pressure pads, and microwave sensors etc..... the cars used to come out to be washed etc, then get put straight back in. With Wifey's cr@ppy Ibiza put in front.

Quite frankly, with my current car (S4), my attitude is that I've got a wife and 2 kids. Keys are left downstairs. IF they want the car, they can take it. Family is MUCH more important. It's a piece of metal.

Doesn't make it acceptable nor enjoyable to have a car theft (I've had 2 thefts, 1 non-recoverable), but not worth the grief to be greeted with with a masked man sporting a hammer or worse.

Mind you, they'll have to get past the dog and the wife first!!!LOL!!

You need the key to start the car as it's got an immobiliser.
Without traction power is nothing!
