Update 20/02/10 :
Well Having Fitted The Upper S3 Strut Brace I Have Found That The Vac Hose To The Top Of The D/v Rubs Against The Brace So I Had To Come Up With A Solution To Overcome This Well Had Nothing At Hand To Remedy It So After Thinking I Came Up With Taking A Small Section Off The D/v And N75 Outlets
So Removing Both Items I Got The Two Outlets Cut Shorter And Re-Fitted Both And Now The Vac Hose Clears The Strut With No Chafing Against It
I Have Put It Down To The Fact That The Outlets On The D/v And N75 Are Slightly Longer On The Aum forge T.i.p Than On The O.e.m One Compared It To Jonny Who Runs The O.e.m T.i.p And Theres Sufficient Clearance Well For The Sake Of Half An Hour The Problems Solved And Clearance Improved So All Good.
CUT PIECES FROM BOTH OUTLETS :
NOW WITH SOME CLEARANCE :
Also This Week I Still Wasn't That Happy With The Clearance Between The Tyre And The Coilover Adjuster Rings Even With The 5mm Spacers
And The Fronts Still Seem Hidden Compared To The Rears So Decided I Would Order Some New Spacers And Bolts I Had Planned For 8mm Ones But After Finding Some There Were None In Stock So Maybe 10mm Ones But Then Realised I Would Be Better Going With Hubcentric Ones Really So Another Call Confirmed Some 13mm Ones Were In Stock So Ordered These And some 45mm Longer Bolts To As Well As Ordering A Set Of 60mm Locking Bolts To Replace The Sh!te Ones That I Fitted Recently
Well Tuesday Morning And I Had Delivery Of Two Parcels
So Set To And Cut The Lockers Down To Suit The Front And Rear Sizes With That Done I Trial Fitted One Side Of Spacers And Fitted In The Bolts Only To Find Them 'Bottoming Out'
Well 5mm's Re-Fitted And Wheel Back On And A Quick Measure Of The Bolts Confirmed They Were 50mm
Just My Fecking Luck Well I Couldn't Be Ar$ed To Be Cutting 8 More Bolts So Dropped Them Into A Mate At Work Who Got Them Cut Down To The Required 41mm I Needed Tidy
With The Bolts Now Correct I Finally Got The Spacers And The Locking Bolts Fitted On Wednesday Morning
Now Theres Good Clearance Of The Coilover Adjuster Rings And The Wheels Now Sitting Further Out Don't Look To Hidden Within The Front Arches So That's Got Be Good To
FK 13MM SPACERS AND NEW LOCKING BOLTS :
ALL FITTED :
While Out This Afternoon Decided To Take One Or Two Pics Of How Its Looking Now Its Spaced At The Front & Rear
Most Happy With The Overall Look So All Good.
ALL SPACED........... :
Thats All For Now As Usual When Things Happen I'l Be Updating'
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 06/03/10 :
So Since The Last Update All Was Well Until I Wondered Why For Some Reason That My Peak Boost Was A Little Low And Was Dropping Off And Not Holding mmmmmmmm
Well A Couple Of Weekends Ago I Had Some Idea Whilst Checking The Oil I For Some Reason Pressed Down on The Brake Booster Vacuum line (that Runs Down To The Pcv On Aum's) And Heard A Hissing Noise Pressed Again Seemed To Stop Pulled On It And Same Noise Again
So Looks Like I Have A Boost/Vac Leak And After Jonny Had Had His Breather Pipes Replaced I Had A Quick Look At Mine (paranoid
) Well They Were Rather Wet/Oily So Not Good Well Spent Abit Of Time On Etka And Some Searches On Forums And It Looked Liked I Would Be Replacing All The Pcv Pipework Etc
So Priced It All Up And Was Looking At Nearly £120 Then It Was Suggested To Me Why Not Fit An Oil Catch Can Well Its On My 'to Do List' And This Seemed Like A Plan So My Immediate Choice Was The Sakou One That Most Mk4 Owners Have Chosen So Sent An E-mail And In The Meantime Searched Around And Found One At Forgemotorsport But The Fittings Were Smaller And I Wanted 19mm Ones So One Call Later And I Had On Order The Catch Can With 19mm Inlet/Outlets And The Top One To Be Made a 90 Degree Elbow
So Onto Sorting Required Hosing Etc And I Then Decided To Get Hold Of Another Cam Cover And Get This Powder coated Also For A Subtle Difference I Sorted Out Some Fixings In Blue Anodized Aluminium (to Replace The O.e.m Stuff) As I Thought This Would Really Finish It Off Nicely Also Got All The Required Bits Together From Tps And Ordered An Audi R8 Oil Filler Cap To Finish Off The Job
Also Decided To Give The t/b A Clean Out And This Then Seemed Like A Good Idea To Paint It At The Same Time Whilst Removed Well All The Parts Had Been Sorted Out And Delivered By Friday Morning So I Decided To Get To Work On Installing Everything Well The Forge Catch Can Is A Little Bigger Than Other Ones So I Didn't Have Much Choice Of Fitment Other Than Between The Lower Engine Cover And Battery Tray So The Plan Was To Fix To The Battery Tray But Then I Changed My Mind And Got A Bracket That I Painted And Modified And Fixed It To One Of The Removable Front Panels Not Much Room Tbh But Thats My Only Option Managed To Paint The T/b And Started The Rest Of Installing The Catch Can But Firstly Upon Removal Of The O.e.m Pcv Pipework It Became Apparent Why I Had A Boost/Vac Leak
AND HERE'S WHY :
So Replacing The Crap O.e.m Pcv Pipework For The Oil Catch Can Was Definately The Way To Go
PAINTED THROTTLE BODY :
'FORGE' CATCH CAN :
POWDERCOATED CAM COVER & OTHER PARTS :
Well Yesterday Only Managed To Make Up And Paint The Catch Can Bracket And Fix It To The Front Panel As Well As To Clean And Paint The Throttle Body Also Removed The Stock Pcv Pipework And Gave Every Where A Good Clean Up And Made A Start On Sorting The Pipework out For The Catch Can
Onto Today And The Job Was To Finish Off All The Catch Can Pipework Remove Old Cam Cover And Clean Up Cam Cover Gasket Face Re-Fit With My New Powdercoated Cam Cover Fit All The Anodized Domed Nuts Washers Etc And The R8 Oil Filler Cap As Well As To Fit Some Smaller Sleeving To The Boost Gauge Vacuum Line And Fit Some New Silicon Hose For Some of The Vacuum Pipes To Keep It As O.e.m Looking As Possible Well Got All Of This Finished Off And Carried Out The Throttle Body Re-Alignment Once This Was Done Took The Car Out For A Quick Drive To Check Everything Was All Okay And The Result Is I Now Hit Peak Boost And It Holds It Now Rather Than Dropping Off As It Did Before!! Hardly Suprising Really Though Given The Condition That The Pcv Hose Was In The Split Was Approx 2" Long And Also At Another Point Had Split All The Way Around The Pipe Felt Really Soft And Brittle So I Reckon Within A Few Weeks The Actual Pipe Would Have Split Into Two So Now I Have The Benifit Of Having Got Rid Of The Crap Pcv Pipework And Fitted An Oil Catch Can And Can Eliminate Any Boost Leaks From That Area Now
And Also Have My Boost Back How It Should Be So Its Fair To Say I'm Well Happy And Also With The Fact Of How Its All Looking In The Engine Bay Its Been An Eventful Two Days But Definately Worth All The Time & Effort
GENERAL PICS OF THE VALVE TRAIN WITH THE CAM COVER REMOVED :
PAINTED THROTTLE BODY :
'FORGE' CATCH CAN :
'GRAPHITE' POWDERCOATED CAM COVER :
AND HOW THE ENGINE BAY LOOKS NOW :
So That's All For Now As Usual Any Further Progress Will Be Updated
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 13/03/10 :
Well Monday Finally Got Round To Going Into My Local Vw Dealer To Get Two New Rear Tyres Fitted The Choice Being Some 'Continental Contactsport 2's' So Currently The Cars Running These All Round Also Had Some Decent Comments About My Golf From The Tech Who Fitted Them As Well As From Some Of The Other Staff
So That's Pleasing
For This Weekend The Plan Was To Re-Paint All The Brake Calipers To Tidy Them Up As They Were Looking Tatty Imo But As My Gf Pointed Out To Me If I'm Taking The Alloys Off To Do That Then Why Not Fit The Discs And Pads At The Same Time As They Really Need Doing (Good Point) So Choice Was O.e.m Front And Rear Discs And Pads From My Local Trade Parts Specialists So Picked All Of These Up Yesterday Afternoon And Set To And Started To Fit The Fronts And Paint The Calipers Today Was To Get The Rears Fitted And The Calipers Also Painted As Well As Re-Adjusting The Handbrake All Done Now And Looking Better Will Be Trying Them Out Tommorrow Just Have To Remember To Bed Them In
Judging By What Was Removed It Was A Sensible Choice To Get The Discs And Pads Fitted
NEW O.E.M DISCS & BRAKE PADS :
ALL THE OLD DISCS & BRAKE PADS :
ALL FITTED & BLUE PAINTED BRAKE CALIPERS :
A Little Different From The Red Painted Calipers But Now They Are Finished I'm Liking How They Look Now
That's All For Now Further Updates Will Be Added When They Happen.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

update 03/04/10 :
Okay Well Whilst Browsing Through The Mk4 Section Topics Last Week Came Across A Post About R32 Grille Meshes And Barry_gti Had Posted Up A Link From The Vw Vortex Forum With Reference To A Front Grille Mod So Having Looked At This I Was More Or Less Sold On The Idea And Decided I'd Go For It
And Make The Front Of Mine Stand Out A Little More From Others Although Don't Get Me Wrong I Liked My Painted Black Grille To But Well Something Different Would Be Good!! Looked Alot Of Work Tbh But Even So I Knew That The End Result Would Be Worthwhile So It Made Me Determined Not To Feck It Up And Succeed And I Prepared Myself For The Challenge
Onto The Dealers For Some Parts And Halfords For The Materials And Work Could Begin.
The Inspiration Started From Here :-
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2430048
REQUIRED PARTS :
THE START :
AND ONTO STAGE 2 :
FIRST FILLER LAYER :
CREATING A NICE EDGE :
EDGES DONE AND FILLED READY FOR SANDING DOWN TO LEVEL :
SMOOTHED/LEVELLED UP :
AT LAST PRIMER :
AND ITS FINISHED!
Used My Red 'GTI' Lettering With Some New Trim And Badge Tape Applied And Marked Up For The Oem Positioning Of The Old Grille To Locate The Letters
And Ready To Fit Onto The Car.....
AND FITTED :
So After A Week Of Alot Of Work And Effort The Grille Was Finally Complete And Fitted
And I'm More Than Happy With The End Result Its Been Well Worth Doing
So Some Forum Members Commented That Chrome Would Be More Suited For The 'Vw' Badge And After Abit Of Thought And Looking Through The Thread I Was Thinking This To As It Would Break Up The Grille And Make It More Noticeable And Not So Hidden In All Black So This Morning Rang The Dealers And Fortunately They Had A Chrome Badge In Stock So This Afternoon I Went Over To Collect It Got Back And Promptly Removed The Old Black One And Fitted On The Chrome One
SO NOW CHROME :
Think I Was Used To The Black As It Had Been Black For Awhile But Now The Chrome Ones Fitted Its Grown On Me And I'm Liking It More
And The Consensus Is Chromes Better With Fellow Forum Members So It's All Good
That's My Update For Now So Any Further Progress And I'l Update As And When.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 10/04/10 :
Whilst Searching Various Forums This Week I Came Across A Topic Covering An Audi TT Wheelarch Vent Mod So The Idea Being For Me Until I Get Around To A Fmic Is To Help Aid Some Sort Of Cooling For The Standard Smic Well It Should Help Get Some Cooler Air Around It At Least To Help The Temperatures Especially As The Weather Is Getting Warmer And This Vent Is Fitted As Standard On The TT's Liner As Well As A Dual One On The S3's So It Must Be Of Some Benefit If Audi Saw Fit To Do This On These Two Cars
So Rang Tps To See If I Could Get One And They Had One In Stock
So Picked That Up Last Night As Well As A New Coolant Expansion Bottle And Cap Well Being Me I Decided To Get The TT Arch Vent Liner Fitted Last Night
A Nice And Easy Enough Job To Do Not That You Can Actually See It Much Once Fitted I Also Fitted Mine Behind The Oem Liner And Sealed With Black Silicone Sealant So It All Keeps It Looking As Oem As Possible
MODIFIED O.E.M LINER WITH TT VENT FITTED :
FITTED :
NEW COOLANT EXPANSION BOTTLE & CAP :
Also This Afternoon I Sorted Out Some Of The Jubilee Clips On The Oil Hoses Of The Catch Can As Well As Cutting A Section From The Lower Engine Cover To Clear The Lower Oil Hose And Whilst At It Modified The Battery Cover So As I Can Slide It Directly Off Once Unclipped As It Was A Case Of Manuevering It Past The Catch Can tank Otherwise Thats All Done Successfully And Is Easier To Remove Now
Also Got The Coolant Expansion Bottle Fitted Looks Alot Better Than The Old One
NEW COOLANT EXPANSION BOTTLE FITTED :
That Looks Much Better In Contrast To My New Look Engine Bay-Tidy
Also Drained Off The Oil Catch Can Tank For The First Time Since I Fitted It About 6-7 Weeks Ago And Here's What Drained
Got Two Of This Amount Drained Off It Being Oily/Watery And Smelling Of Combustion Fumes So At Least The Oil Catch Can Is Doing What It Should Be Doing So It Shows What Crap Would Be In The Stock Pcv System
I'l Leave It For A Few Weeks And Then Check Again.
Well Thats Everything For Now As Usual I'll Update As And When.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 17/04/10 :
Noticed A Couple Of Weeks Ago That Two Injector Seats Looked A Little Wet
Well Eventually I Wanted/Planned To Have The Inlet Manifold Powdercoated The Same Colour As The Cam Cover I Had Done But During The Last Week It Started To Annoy Me That The Seats Were Looking Abit Sorry For Themselves On The Inlet Manifold But I Need To Use My Golf Nearly Everyday So Sourcing Another Aum Inlet Wasn't Going To Happen Really So Earlier This Week My Plan Changed To Painting It In Satin Black The Same As The T/b So I Called Into My Local Vw Dealer And Got The Parts Needed To Get On With The Job
So Today I Got Round To Getting It All Done Once All The Fuel System Was De-Pressurised The T/b And Injectors Removed Onto The Inlet And Get That Off Also Decided I Would Get The Throttle Body Bolts Painted Up At The Same Time
REQUIRED PARTS :
Also Got Four New Injector Seats But Once I Had The Inlet Off And Had A Look At The Original Ones They Looked Acceptable And I Decided To Leave Them In So Would Just Replace The O'Ring Seals On Each Injector As A Matter Of Course Upon Inspection Number 2 & 3 Seals Were Looking Abit Tired So More Than Likely Why They Seemed Wet Around The Seat Inserts
T/B BOLTS PRIMERED :
INLET MANIFOLD PRIMERED :
3 COATS OF SATIN BLACK :
FINISHED :
ALL FITTED :
I'm Very Pleased With How Its Turned Out And Think That It Goes Well Against The Cam Cover And The Other Painted Parts Has Certainly Livened Up The Engine Bay And I Got The Injector Seals Replaced To A Good Result.
Also The Cars Counting Down Untill Its Next Service Which Is Now Due In 1800 Miles Rang My Local Vw Dealer For A Price And Got A Quote Of Approx £342
With Abit Of Discount Etc I Got A Final Price Of £272 Still Abit Steep But Better So Will Be Getting It Booked In Shortly
Also Going To Look At Sorting The Outlet Hose Of My Oil Catch Can To See If I Can Adapt A Different Positioning Of The Hose Etc So Will Be Sourcing Some Oil Hose And A 90 Degree Elbow And See What I Can Come Up With Hopefully Looking Into This Next Weekend
So That's All For Now I'll Be Updating As And When Anything Else Is Done
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 24/04/10 :
So Another Little Job Was Done This Week Thanks To Rhys Reminding Me
Originally My Catch Can Top Oil Hose Was Fitted Level To The Top Of The Catch Can And The New Pipe Fitted Into A Piece Of The Old Breather Pipe To The Cam Cover But I Suppose I Just Wanted It All Fitted And Working At The Time
Eventually It Would Have Been Sorted But With Rhys Reminding Me I Ordered Up Some Oil Resistant Hose And A 90 Degree Joint These Arrived The Other Day So Thursday After Work I Got The New Hose Fitted And Looking Better Than How It Originally Was
Although The 90 Degree Joint Didn't Get Used Wether This Stays Routed Like This I'm Not To Sure
It May Change Again
RE-ROUTED OIL HOSE :
Also Thinking Of Replacing The O.e.m Airbox Set-Up With A Cai So That Should Be Next Up If I Get It Ordered This Week
That's All For Now
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 25/04/10 :
Well The Re-Routed Top Oil Hose Of My Catch Can Lasted For 3 Days
And Today I Altered How It Runs Again This Time In A Way That I'm Happy With Thanks To A Suggestion Made To Me By Patch Which Looking At It Made Sense And Looked Better So This Is Now Done And Sorted Out
2ND ALTERED TOP OIL HOSE :
At Least I Got To Use The 90 Degree Joint That I Also Bought
Also Ordered Last Night My C.a.i So Hopefully That Should Be With Me Shortly Ready For Fitment Looking Forward To This
So I'll Be Updating Once This Is Fitted
Thanks For Looking/Reading

Update 28/04/10 :
Having Had Abit Of A Think Around I Decided To Remove The Original Airbox And Dsg Intake And Go For A C.a.i Kit So Thought I'd Order One Up Last Weekend So I Could Get It This Week All Sorted Until I had Some Dissapointing News On Monday Morning In That The Cai I Wanted Was'nt In Stock And Delivery Is Approx 3 Weeks!!
Mmmm Not Good!! As Usual So Another Call And Same Result
So In The End Even Tho I'll Admit The Price Is Relatively Shall We Say Steep I Decided Feck It I'll Have A 'Carbonio' So A Call To Jkm And They Sorted Me Out
Earlier This Morning The Postie Delivered Me A Nice White Box With The Words 'Carbonio' On It So This Afternoon I Got Out There To Get It On The Golf No Time Like The Present
Fitment Was A Little Bit Of pain But Nothing Out Of The Ordinary And Finally The 'Carbonio' Was Fitted!!
After A Drive Earlier This Evening Got To Say Its Fecking Awesome!! Noise Is Nice Alot More D/v Sound On Throttle And Lift Off The Speed Gets Up Rapidly And It Just Seems To Want To Pull More Now I'm Well Happy !!
ARRIVED & READY TO FIT :
ITS ALL FITTED :
AND HOW IT LOOKS NOW :
Can't Beat a Nice Piece Of Carbon Fibre
Really Pleased With How My Engine Bay Now Looks And I'm More Or Less There With That I Think The 'Carbonio' Intake Pipe Contrasts Really Well With The Rest Of The Bits And Makes The Bay Complete
Nearly Forgot
NEW ADDITION FOR MY KEYS :
Forum Keyring Which I Got On Monday
So For Now Thats Where I'm At With My Golf Nothing Major Will Happen I Don't Think/Planned Over The Coming Months (Famous Last Words
) But When It Happens I'll Be Updating.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 13/05/10 :
After Having Vag Com'd The Car The Other Week After Sorting The Sai Pump I Had The Infamous 17705 Fault Code
Again!! Well I Hoped I Had Found The Culprit My Lower Boost To Pancakepipe Hose From The Charge pipe As It Was Covered In Wet Oil
So Having Known It Was Like This For A little While I Decided The Time Had Come To Get It Replaced So Rang My Local Dealers Last Weekend And Ordered Up The Pancake/Smic Hose And The Uprated Oem Lower Boost Hose And Various Clips And Jubilee Clips Totalling
£68.19
For That Lot
So Yesterday I Called Into Pick Them Up And Decided I May As Well Fit Them Before The Weekend
Not To Bad To Do Although The Chargepipe Is A Pita To Get Out
But It Came Out Easy Enough Found Some Oily Residue In The Chargepipe And The Pancake Pipe So They Both Got Washed Out Before Fitting The Hoses.
EXPENSIVE PARTS
-BUT NEEDED :
CHARGEPIPE & OLD HOSE :
Once Removed It Was Clear That It Had Been Leaking Some Oil And Loosing Me Boost! Found One Of The Locating Lugs Had Worn A Flat On It And Oil Had Found Its Way Past The Metal Insert
Looking At The Old And New Pipes The Updated Version Has Solid Locating Lugs and A Better 'O' Ring Oil Seal.....
AND ALL FITTED!! :
After Putting Everything Back Together Took It Out For A Little Run To See What Was What And The Car Feels Alot Stronger And Best Of All The Boosts Hitting 20 P.s.i Peak Holding And Then Drops To 15 Once Changing Gear So Looks Like This Pipe Was The Culprit So Will Have To See If The Codes Gone
So Tonight After Work I Hooked It Up To Vag-Com To Check I Thought It Maybe Present As I Cleared It Last Week But Knew It Would Be Back And Need Clearing So Cleared It Again And Went For Another Little Run Another Check And..............
No 17705 Code So Hopefully It May Have Gone Away
Time Will Tell But At Least It Boosts Now As It Should Be Doing!!
So That's All For Now........Updates As And When.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.
