Running a 16V on V-power and Tesco 99... no problems but i prefer to use V-power as you don't know what additives you got in the Tesco fuel. :huh:

I only use tesco as my car has dun 160k so if the engine gets fooked then i'll just have to install that BAM engine to replace it!!! :grin:

I run all my cars on Tesco 99 - one of the best fuels on the market and cheaper.

To be honest none of the Golf 8v or 16v will run any faster unless the ECU can dynamically advance the timing of the fuel/ignition map(still learning about the golf ecu so it might do) .

Advance you static timing a few degrees and stick the higher octane fuel and and driverblity should go up a bit.

On my MR2 Turbo if you boost it on 95 octane the car reverts to "Safe map" and pulls timing to keep pinking/det under control and the car looses a wallop of power and torque. Run it on the good stuff and the map reverts to "normal" and advances the timing back up and I regaine about 40HP and 60lbs of torque. (tested this on a RR about 4 years ago)

99, 95, octane :huh:. No wonder, the euro GTI stuff. out of the box, ya'lls run circles around the American :embarassed: versions. Along w/ that 99 octane, c'mon guys ship some over here. the best we get out of the pump is 93, the only way to get the good stuff 101 or better. Is from a auto performance shop @ 4.50 a gal.  at least.:embarassed:    :sad:

93 MON is the same as UK/Europe 97RON
91MON is 95 RON
87MON (aka pisswater) is 91RON

So you will find you get pretty much the same as us.

go away and gain an understanding of how enignes really work and what goes on in them.

most of the time enignes will tolerate lower octane than they are meant to run on, tho you try driveing hard on a hot day in the middel of summer.  pop

bit hard to do on a low power NA GOLF GTi, if your talking Turbo/super charged then yes , but most ECUs would back timing off and dump more fuel in to safe the motor.

2 degrees of static should not cause this

tell that to k jet.    or a 20vt running qpeng  nether systems have knock sensors.   

just seen evidence of a nother ABF  die  from dettonation thanks to running on kjet  you have to rember it dosent happen as quickly as with boos but still happens.

run an enigne desinged for 97 on 95  and you are just giveing it all the more chance of going pop.     
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Hmm been running mine on Morrisons normal stuff and it seems to be ok. Might have to fill it up with premium and run a test eh?? Never really figured it would make much difference and im a tight git so ive always bought the cheapo stuff!!

A quick update on my above post, I decided to try the expensive BP stuff and to be honest I couldnt tell ANY difference to the standard Morrisons goop Ive been using for ages - however I put £15 worth of Tesco Super Unleaded in tonight (first time ive tried it) after it was nearly on empty and there is a HUGE difference, feels like a different car - much smoother and more responsive!
