It makes sod all difference and this has been covered loads of times.

I didn't want to sub to this thread but Kittie - it makes a massive difference. You're on here often enough, I would have thought you'd know the impact of using 95 fuel on a 97 tuned engine.

Crappy marketing aside, it probably won't give you better fuel economy or clean the engine the way they describe. But what it will prevent is detonation and your pistons looking like this ...

Every time this topic is covered, its always stated that you should be using the right fuel in the right engine, maybe you should re-read ;)

Well in the last 60,000 miles/8 years I know for a fact that my golf has had about 10 or 20 quid of Optimax about 3 times. Can't comment on before that as it was in a different family then. It runs fine, got 170odd K on it with no problems, and when I have used it the only difference I've noticed is a lighter purse!

Weather, now that makes a difference

At the end of the day, your car was built and tuned to run on 97. It shouldn't really be up for debate

My cars been pinking (MK2 PB ) ive been running esso 95 in it, read this, put V-power in and wouldnt ya know, pinking gone, car feels smooth and like it wants to go for it! where as before it felt loke if i put my foot down it was gonna go bang, it didnt want to go at all!

gonna run another tank through and then head to my nearest VW specialist for some fine tuning!

I have MK2 Digi - have been running 95 for the last 8 months....put in BP 97 super...and the engine revs smoother and quieter?..havent really noticed the proformance...but its the first tank of 97...

I was expecting better fuel economy...i would say its been the same,

Went for a run to Birm over the weekend, normally costs me £35 return journey averaging 85mph....but due to traffic...and sh!t weather...averaged only 70mph.....Birm and back to london for £30!...

Unfortunity i spun out on a roundabout saturday morning in birm....was only doing 25mph...now i need a front drives side wing, head light and grill...
Anyone got a silver drivers wing email me on parv@jkps.co.uk....or make me a offer...Silver J reg 5 door 8 month mot and 3 months tax...98K full history, BBS Ra mint interior, no rips..every past mot..£600 ...cheers

i have not read all the way through this thread. but under my pb's petrol filler cap it reads min 98ron. is this what the germans used to use back in the late 80's anyway?

I always ran my MKII Digis on bogo unleaded with no problems and probably covered 100,000 miles between the 3 of them.

Can't comment on my mk2  as it isn't on the road yet, but i use shell and bp 97 in my Vitara and Ka also in 650 bandit and it DOES make a noticeable difference, especially in the Vit, it pulls a high top gear at lower rpm and gets 3/4 extra mpg. So.. when gti is on the road it's getting the good stuff

you need a new knock sensor.

all the vw enignes should be abel to run on 95 octane safely  but some run safer than others,   8v digifants  knock there timeing back via the knock sensor .  k j et  2.0 16v's and 95 ron is a big fat massive no tho
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
