i have not read all the way through this thread. but under my pb's petrol filler cap it reads min 98ron. is this what the germans used to use back in the late 80's anyway?

I believe 98 RON is four star.

110 ron will actualy reduce your output,  needs engine built to exploit it
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

model airoplane fuel is the one we got caught hillclimbing with.

mk1 NA 2.0 16v makeing 400 ish bhp on home brew nitro mix (90 % nitromethane  6 % methanol 4 % castrol R )  that thing turned heads to meany heads.  scrutineers got very intrested in it quite quickly then said stopit thats not allowed.  was silly fast up the hill till then  engines din't last very long tho and it made some very intresting smells
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Thank you. Someone with some knowledge, and not bar room waffle!

This thread is so long and boring and it need to be locked. In future, use the search as it has been covered many, many, many many times before with the same results and same arguments with nothing gained.
If you are happy to run on low octane, do it. If you are happy to run on high octane, do it. If you want to listen to bar room B.S, please, carry on. But please, let this be the last thread on this ridiculous topic.
