Anni Gear Knob [s]Problem[/s] (Half) Sorted
« on: 22 January 2009, 10:55 »
I've been a bit of a plank, TBH.   :(

I researched the removal/fitting procedure & it all seemed pretty straight forward, so I went ahead & bought that Anni gear knob with no gaitor off eBay (you might've seen it??).  I assumed (like an idiot) that I'd simply be able to use my standard gaitor.  However the size of the plastic & metal retaining clips for the gaitor, along with the size of the 'stopper' on the knob itself (& the 'neck' of the gaitor leather), are a lot bigger than the Anni 'stopper', therefore, the gaitor clips just spin when placed onto the Anni knob.  (Please see below).

Anybody got any ideas, please?  Can I buy either the Anni clips &/or the gaitor sepreately?  (Even if i could just get the clips I think I could bodge the gaitor to fit).

Also, as (lack of) luck would have it, when I place the Anni knob on the shaft (it can only go on 1 way), the badge on the top is upside down.  Can this just be heated up, peeled off & re-glued back on??  :undecided:

TIA,

Ivor

I've sorted out the 2nd prob - Just prized it off & spun it around!

Anybody got any suggestions on the gaitor & clip scenario??

This is just for holding the gaiter on the knob yeah? Big fat rubber washer might work.

Could you not fold the top of the gator over (inside of itself) and create some sort of 'tie pull' to fasten it?

Hmm.... perhaps that isn't the clearest description I have ever given???!!!  :undecided:

Yeah, that's probably not a bad shout.

Initially, I was thinking of a hose clip/jubilee clip, but then it would have the screw bit sticking out which could potentially rip the leather.

Am going to pop into Halchavs later & see what kind of universal gaitors they've got.

ps  A zip/cable tie might do the trick, too. :afro:

Yes, that's how the OE one is held on, accept VW have had their own clip system fabricated. :)

A small cable tie should do the trick.
