should point out that rev'ing and engine with no load is not good for it.

hello bud, ive changed my crank sensor when i removed it was damaged, bare wires etc. Got a new one from gsf. Ive fitted it but im still having same problems. it will start and idle for 10 min then cut out then wont start for 10 mins when its cooled down!!!!! Ive changed the coil pack, ignition switch, fuel pump and ecu relays, cleaned electrical contacts, cleaned the throttle body added fuel treatment to the tank. ive looked at the dizzy it looks fine but may not be!!!!! Dont know wot to do might just take it to vw specialist, he wants £50 just to put it on vagcom, could be expensive. cheers Griff

i was going to sau ecu but you guys got there before me. only way to check it properly is to let it idle get it to temp and then rev it lyk a beehach! it will cut out connect vag com and ut will tel you no signal from ecu it will be the ecu relay (had same prob going down a hill engine clunks of no brakes or power steering
yeah its not good mate bit of a death trap really no brakes etc. i swapped the relay for one out my 1.6 and no change starting to think it could be the ecu. do u know if this is common? cheers griff

I bet you its the crank sensor ... your symptoms just so much like the crank. Silly rev' bouncing and cutting out.

I spent nearly £800 fixing/replacing so much stuff under the hood, and did the crank sensor last.

I also, got a NEW ECU reprogrammed and what not ...

Absolute headache electrical faults are, but when sorted you have your self a solid motor again.

yeah youre right there mate, gunna have a new car by the time i find this gremlin. when i saw the state of the crank sensor i thought its got to be that but ive replaced it and its still giving me grief, headache!!!!!!!!

Hang in their, youve pretty much replaced quite a lot ... so keep going. Trust me, its worth it in the end as you know youve pretty much eliminated most if not all the problems for a very long time!

HAPPY DAYS........ As u know been having problems with cutting out etc, took her to the vw specialist and put her on the vagcom. dodgy power supply relay to ecu, the dealer said its common the solder goes hard and breaks up. only charged me £30 to scan it (quoted me £50 last time) fair play, seems to be sorted now fingers crossed. £72 for the lot, im well happy. cheers 4 ya help people. nice one griff

sorted it , it was the crank sensor, the new one i had fitted, hadnt bolted all the way in when i fitted it, went to take it out and the bolt was loose , tightened it back up and it seems to be ok now, bit annoyed that i spent about 100 quid on parts i didnt need tho, got spare crank sensor, distributor, relays and sensors, doh
