Received my car back from its service only to receive 2 things in return that the Fecking dealers are gonna get shoved down their throat in the morning when she geoes back in for top Suspention bushes under warranty.
Im gonna personally pay a visit to the Mechanic Richard whos name is on the "Mechanic in charge of your service"
2 inch scuff to immaculate Pescara alloy........
and massive paint chip where they couldnt be bothered to lift bonnet up or put wipers in service position........... half inch paint gash
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s264/philmcavity/100_1515.jpg)
What do you reckon, full bonnet respray, im not excepting a touch up with a pen thats for certain
-
Bastids!
Nick
-
I find this unbelievable. Do they seriously think that owners won't notice damage.!!? Especially on what is obviously a new car, that is fastidiously maintained!?
Hope you get the results you want Steve.
-
....
Oh no!! Soooo sorry to read this!
Just throw the book at them!
-
Not good, i would say new alloy, i personally would not want a repainted bonnet (unless its knackered already)
-
I think Alan D is gonna be saying it could be worse Phil they could be Monza II's :lipsrsealed:
On a serious note its really sad when these things happen i can feel your pain. go and kick some butt.
-
yes quick enough to charge me £124 for a fecking oil change as i look at my receipt. i am just abit p!issed off as you can imagine.
Cars back 2morrow for some warranty work and already allerted them to the damaged alloy as it was dark when i collected the car, wasnt untill 1st light this
morning, i went perpossley looking to see if i could spot any damage and it didnt take me long, put me in a foul mood this morning.
-
well paint chips are a favorite of Phylis on the bonnet when i bought it, so i wouldnt argue on that one shaun tbh.
-
Did you show them the damage before you left ?
-
Sorry to hear about your damage Phil
I took mine in a couple of weeks ago to replace some trim that was damaged and they managed to damage some more!!!
-
WTF are these dealers on?! My Ed30 has been at the stealers since last Tuesday and I'm getting really paranoid now.
-
thats bad Phil , gutted for you , but seems the way it is these days.
I had Awesome fix a CV joint problem rather than have my car go into the dealer !
The only thing I might suggest is that for the bonnet , I would balance risk vs how p* ssed you are.
Touchup stick and you wont notice it , whereas a respray on a red car might cause more problems than it solves.
pescara , well Id be asking for a new one. as we all know there aint a touch up stick
hope it gets fixed soon
-
Forget the repair, I'd find the muppet responsible, rip his head off and sh1t down his throat!!
Makes me so mad to see this neglect from so called proffesionals!!! Hope you get it sorted Steve......

MTHR FCKING SNS F BTCHS!!
What is Richard usually shortened to?....Ah yes.....DICK!!!
This kind of simple lack of duty of care to peoples cars is unforgiveable!
Just ensure you are hard, but fair. Have a rant by all means, but also remember that the car is going in for warranty work with them too
Once you get your car back fully sorted....then let rip fully
-
sorry to hear that Steve,
Forget the repair, I'd find the muppet responsible, rip his head off and sh1t down his throat!!
a little harsh but i see where your cumin from Nath

....Good point but it depends on the body shop you go to. Mine (affiliated to my VW dealer) is excellent and has done blending on my front splitter and painted my carbonfibre bonnet to match my Tornado Red car. Same on a very deep cut into my rear spoiler.
-
Oh no! sorry to hear about the damage phil. I would be so angry. What ever happened to pride?
-
Dude that's harsh! All these threads about dealers mishandling cars makes me paranoid about getting mine serviced.
I hope they repair it and if you need a replacement car, it'd best be a Scirocco.
-
Gutted for you mate.
If you have taken it away from the site and reported this after they may well say how do we know you did not do it, tough luck. If they take this root, make sure you stay in control but remain firm. If they are unreasonable to your request speak to someone higher than the Service Manager and inform them that you will highlight this matter through the network of contacts you have. Finally, you can go court action online, this usually makes them cave in.
Good luck mate, I hate stealers!
-
Cheers for your thoughts guys, well theyve had 3 cars sales outa me, and im good friends with 2 of the sales department, i will let you know
tommorow what happens. If they wanna keep me as a returning customer, and a happier one, they better not Dispute my claims.
Put it this way, if your milk in your cornflakes ripples at 8am ish in the morning, you know its not an earth tremor

-
best of luck Steve!
-
....
Did I just feel the Earth move!? A tremor perhaps?
-
sorry to hear it phil  i dont even go to stealers for work anymore, as i know it wont be the same when i get it back  i get mine serviced at awesome now
-
....
I wouldn't dream of taking my car for servicing anywhere other than my VW dealer! Together with their affiliated bodyshop, I've had nothing but excellent experiences.
VW Loders of Dorchester.
-
unlucky hope everything goes your way at the dealers today. cant believe they thought you wouldnt notice it.
-
How'd you get on Steve?
-
Being paranoid myself I now always make them inspect my car before I hand it over and fill in a damage form (like you get when renting a car). That way should you get it back with any damage they can't say "it wasn't us mate!".
I always get funny looks from the robots on the service desk when I make them do it - I guess most customers don't bother. And they probably don't like getting off their ar*es to come outside in the morning!
-
thats a great idea! perhaps we should pull together a proforma and we could all use?
seems they just dont care with your possessions when you take it into the garage...its not just GTIs btw, my mate has a Golf plus...they removed his oem stereo and left 4 screwdriver dents in his dash!!! gave it back with dings in rear quarter...
he went to town with the lazy btards....he got it all fixed...and more...
that was with Verve, Glasgow btw...just for the record.
-
How'd you get on Steve?
Well took the car in , and typical my luck, the service manager wasnt in at 8am but the Girl who is one of the service desk girls(as per usual the Rather nice looking one) had a look and she said" i will get that sorted and didnt even quibble about my claims.Their Paintshop were gonna have a look at the chip and their Company that do theeir alloys would make an assessment of the alloy.
What i did say though is i want to pick my car up when its daylight so i can inspect the car before i drive off , not like the other day where it was getting dark and didnt spot it.
So sat here waiting for a phonecall which i know i wont get, she said, if you dont hear from me assume their are not problems and that she should be ready by 4pm today.
So courtasy car today is an 08 VW jetta , (preffered mondays Tiguan Sport) which the wife hasnt stop yapping about!!
-
ok, just had a phonecall, they have "repaired" the alloy but wont except liability for the Paint chip as they reckon that the wiper arm couldnt of made contact with that part of the bonnet. They even said that the engineer didnt even do or admit to the alloy wheel damage. He reckons that the damage must of been already done. Even though i washed the alloys 1 hour prior to handing the car over!!.
But as a "good will Gesture" they have repaird'd just the alloy. Going to go get it now.
-
I wouldn't be happy with that at all Steve!
P.S. Like the new sig
-

Ditto!
That sucks balls big time!
-
Ooooohhhh dear sorry to hear about this, hope all gets sorted soon!
-
sorry to heat about that mate. fooking stealers are tw*ts and need to sort them selfs right out
-
i'd be P1$$ED!!  they are basically calling you a liar!
-
i'd be P1$$ED!!  they are basically calling you a liar!
....Not necessarily. They are probably genuinely convinced that they didn't do any damage. It's good that in spite of that, they did a gesture of goodwill on the alloy. If it's clear that the wiper arm couldn't physically make contact, then who is right?
-
Man, if the car goes into the dealership without the scrape on the bonnet and comes out with a scrape on the bonnet, does it stand to reason that the scrape occured whilst in the care of the garage?
The scrape could have been made by another means apart from the wiper blade arm, could it not?
Jsut guessing based on the current information supplied.
-

And to prevent such issues make the service manager (or someone simillar) walk around the car and point out the lack of damage to the car when you drop it off, especially the alloys etc, if nothing else it will warn them that you may well be quite anal and they should take more care, its hard to actually do without looking like a prat but worth it if something does go wrong
-
ok got her back, and alloy HAS been resprayed in the repair area, the match is all i can sort of describe is, that i know its there but the wife cannot spot it. I prooved that the passenger side wiper arm DOES make contact with the bonnet in a certain position, but they wouldnt admit to either and that the alloy was done as a good will gesture, but they said "your other side has a couple of small scuffs", which i replied to that they were done by my goodself and not from here.
Im stuck with it really, its allways gonna be in my mind that a repairs there and the shiny new looking alloy in the repair area sticks out like a saw thumb ,but to others that dont know what theyre looking for,its not as aparrent.
So i got the cocktail stick out and repaired the bonnet as best as i can.
I shall not be returning there for any service work in future.
-
name and shame

....Definitely anal imo but a very good idea and one which Phil can now do in a friendly way in the future because of this incident.
Btw, it's not just VW dealers who might try and wriggle out of being responsible for damage, but the fact remains that the vast majority of garages do try their best to look after your car, but things happen - It's a machine.
-
I was planning on going down to VW soton in a coupla weeks for some stuff (I never got round to buying the oil/washer/coolant). Not sure whether I should now.
-
try Breeze Volkswagen , shirley Southampton Stealth. They are very good there so ive been told.

Noticed a few veedubs with Breeze advertising. Thought it was the dorset one or something.
Will check them out in a coupla weeks.

not realy anal considering all the reports we have heard about dealerships. I too mine in after having owned it for couple of weeks because there was a problem with the tailgate not closing properly. I stupidly forgot to ask them NOT to wash the car. Picked up the car and it was cleaned with what I can only describe as a extra wide broom. It now has fine spider scratches all over the body in wide straight streaks. The dealership in question is Beadles in Dartford

....There's someone on here who was very unhappy with Breeze but perhaps it was in Poole.
-
Didn't realise Breeze was in Poole - in fact that's more likely where the new veedubs came from.
So need to figure out whether Breeze in Poole or Breeze in Soton's bad. Alternatively, I might just wait until I go back to VW solihull.

We have a section somewhere for the Good Guys.....would it be an idea to name and shame The Bad Guys in a similar section, or does that open us up to some sort of (excuse my lack of legal knowledge if I use the incorrect term) litigation?

Sorry to hear about al this Phil! I know exactly how you feel. However I am also now considering not giving my car back to the garage but asking a independent repairer to take a look at it and bill VW. The catalogue or errors we hear about at VW dealerships is ridiculous.
Im still waiting for a call for mine to go back in!!!
What ever happend to treating stuff like its your own?? I always thought it was "if you break it, you buy it". They should make that the law. Would be nice to see them looking after stuff then.

correct robin, brains not in gear.....
Cant believe theyve not owned up or admitted any liability for anything, not even given me a part or full refund. So in total. Lube service for £124, and in return ive left with 1x scuffed Pescara, Chipped paintwork on the bonnet, and now knackered rear light cluster that ive had to bodge with the wifes hairdryer untill ANOTHER TRIP to stealers monday. Ive already told them they are NOT to replace the light cluster, i will do it and sign the jobcard for another claim against vw.

Hi Guys
Been reading this and they have done what I thought they would. Repairing the alloy as a gesture but not admiting to the bonnet (alloy is the cheaper option as they would have a trade price of around £25) by not admiting to the bonnet they have cleared any responsibility that would cost a few hundred to spray and blend.
In future, it is advisable to check your vehicle before you leave as 99% of dealers would take this approach. They have to protect themselves from false claims (I am not saying Steves was false btw) and they blanket everything with this response.
Steve, prob worth doing, write to the Dealer Principle and put in writing your disgust at the way you have been treated. See what he says and you may well get it done as a 'loyal' client.
Good luck mate
Martz

I will do Martz, a friend of mine knows the owner Darren Cooper very well, ive bought 3 cars from them, 2 of which were both Darrens Mums Cars , both the other GTi's ive owned. I will get his email address from My mate and email him direct.
-
I think the camel's back has just snapped under that extra straw!!
How the fcuk have they even managed to get that much water in there
-
Point blank range with the pressure washer lance no doubt. , they said when i collected the car, would you like a free wash, "i get them just to give it a clean quickly. I went inside and had a coffee with my mate whos one of the salesman and told him why i was back in the dealership again.
Like you said john, the lamp was a third full of water, lucky the water didnt hit the bulbs cus they would of exploded.
-
I think I have just about had enough of VW! After getting the Golf I decided i would never need to get that lovelly 3series coup I had a deposit on. Seems like after this one I will go over to a brand that value thier customers.. like BMW

....What some people seem to either forget or are ignorant about (rather like their car lease details), is that each dealership is merely a franchise - An independent garage/workshop/reseller who have entered into a formal agreement to exclusively market a vehicle brand in exchange for support and very smart premises with the brand's logo plastered all over it. This extensive badging makes people think that each franchise actually is VW or BMW (or whichever brand), but it's not. Each approved/appointed dealership is no better than they would be as a business if they didn't have the smart premises and logo. Hence the disparity in standards.
So, a BMW dealership may be no better than a VW dealership and vica-versa.
If you are unhappy with a dealership you should contact the UK 'head' office and make a formal complaint. If you don't and only b!tch on a car forum, how are they able to do something to improve standards if they don't know about issues?
Surely the primary choice of your ride is best based on what you think of the model of vehicle on offer. You can always find or change a dealer to trust. Btw, I love BMW's, especially the new X6.

^^ Totally agree with what you said there RR but it does seem that all VW dealerships seem to fall well below the expected levels of service. And the fact that so many people seem to have little bit, but annoying faults only adds to an overall/underlying problem.
Have had some experience of BMW in Leeds and they have been nothing short of brilliant! All in my experience of course... but like yourself RR I am more than happy to sing praises of anyone who treats a customer good. Have had not one good thing to say about VW in over a year of ownership. Its been so dissappointing in fact that i often ignore these small problems in the hope that they would go away. :undecided:
-
....
Yes, naturally you can only make judgements based on your individual experience and it certainly does appear that too many VW dealerships just don't deserve to be.
I really want to encourage people to complain to VW UK - rationally and properly - so that matters may be improved for everyone's sake.
Which Beemer interests you? There's quite a range to choose from.

Oh trust me, having worked for BMW - there are loads of cr@p dealers that are just as bad as the VW dealers in question in recent threads on here!!

when mine went in for a service i just told them , i felt a bit of a prat but so what !!! i said ,i know every mark on the car , the mileage has been noted (no test drive is required) no wash , no apprentice s to work on the car , make sure oil is not above the max .............. made the service manager write all this on the job sheet and that i will check on collection , she was ok about it really

Sorry that they have buggered up your car again Phil.!!
Every time I pick my car up I walk around and give it a check over, alloys & body panels, even to the point of getting down and looking for dints along body panels. A habit I picked up doing dealer exchange deliveries as a summer job.
Even though I do this I didn't spot the damage to the interior trim until I got home last time !!. I also get them to write DO NOT WASH on the key tag, they can Vac it if they want to though.
The last few times I have even got the service receptionist to walk around the car with me when I drop it off. The usual answer is "Thats ok Mr. T we know that you keep your car in good condition".......
Mind you I once picked my MKiv up from a brake service and the garage had damaged 3 wheels!!!!  Now your not telling me the guy who did the work on it didn't know that he had done the damage. It must have cost him more to pay for the wheels to be rapaired that what I had paid him in the first place!!!

yeh, not easy to do but oh so worth it

I must admit that Windrush VW Maidenhead have been very good so far (1 year of ownership). Just built a brand new servicing premises which is quite impressive.
Although, if anyone has had a bad experience with them I would be intrigued to hear!
I sometimes contemplate doing my own servicing - save a lot of money, increase my mechanical knowledge and not risk getting my car damaged by some spotty 17yr old apprentice.
But, I sacrifice a full service history blah blah blah blah blah......
-
Ive just sent an email to the Manager at Peter Cooper, lets hope his wife makes him a cooked breakfast in the morning when he reads his email in tray at 9am
-
Got to agree with RR's comments, it does not matter what marque you buy, it's the individual dealers that make the difference.
In my experience of VW ownership in the last 6 years, every dealer within a 40 mile radius is poor, and they certainly do not appreicate good customer service or relationships, and due to this, once the GTI goes, its our last VW, because even complaints to VW customer service only get the 'well we do not control each garage, they are franchises', at that point you are on your own, and I had 7 months of hell getting a steering fault fixed last year and it soured the view of VW that I have.
In the last 20 years I have also owned BM's continously, and again some dealers are rubbish too, but overall my experience has been a lot more positive, and for this reason I stick with the brand, but it really comes down to finding a good dealer that you have faith in and building a relationship with them, so that they totally understand what you expect of them and what you will accept in terms of service.
For what are high value items, it should not be like this, but unfortunately it appears to be the norm throughout the auto industry.
-
Sorry to hear about these bad experiences!
I have just had our new Ed 30 into our local dealer to replace the black panel on the drivers door under warranty as it was dented. I always ask the girls on reception to confirm the car is unmarked or damaged on arrival and they always come out and make sure you are happy when collecting. I try and wait for the car so it is in their car park for as little time as possible to avoid other customers damaging it........(the usual reason for damage in this tight car park) We have two Golfs at present and can only speak very highly of the service we receive
L J Sheppards, Bishop Stortford.
-
I always wait with my car when getting it serviced, don't trust any mechanic no matter how good my relationship is with the dealer! I always make sure I watch what the mechanic is doing and make my present felt. I know this is not possible in all cases but from my past experiences I will never leave my car at the dealer unless I have to!
-
That really isn't good enough Steve!
I've 'yet' to have a bad experience with my dealer but I don't expect to as there is a much bigger picture when it comes to dealing with me..............
It's a real shame, but the truth is EVERY main dealer represented by most manufacturer's have a wobble here and there! It's just unfortunate this wobble was with your car!
-

To update, i sent an email to the Manager last night which took me an hour to write!! so you can imagine what i put in it!. Sent 3 photos of the damage so he could see etc.
Gota result, the Manager called My wife today at home whilst i was at work voicing his concern at my recent experiance and wants to meet me in person on monday to discuss and where to take it from etc., perhaps free lub service ,new alloy, and proper paint chip repair/respray isnt a write off just yet.
Will let ya'll know from My monday morning visit

I've 'yet' to have a bad experience with my dealer but I don't expect to as there is a much bigger picture when it comes to dealing with me..............
It's a real shame, but the truth is EVERY main dealer represented by most manufacturer's have a wobble here and there! It's just unfortunate this wobble was with your car!
Nice work Steve
Sometimes it pays to sit back, relax and be forceful but polite! Hope it sorts it's self out soon!

Glad it's looking better. :afro:

This sort of service is a to common these days at main dealers...I can't fault the dealer who I was using for both my Mk5 and also my wifes Eos.Both cars were bought from them new and all warranty work carried out by them(plenty of it as well).
I always asked for the same Tech to do any work on both cars as the guy was my mates apprentice for 4 years and he rated the lad very highly.I couldn't fault them at all but,VW when I queried the amount of repetitive claims we were having due to parts failing didn't even bother to answer!!!!
I am very friendly with the dealerships Brand Manager and he arranged for me to meet with VW's regional rep at the dealership.Even after that VW thought replacing windscreens, various sensors on the Mk5 and 3 sets of roof seals on the Eos in 12 months acceptable(Don't think so Mr VW).
After just over a year of Mk5 ownership and 18 months with the Eos,I gave up and went back to BMW's...Again my local dealer is pretty much on the ball and always try to help out(bit pricey'r than the VW dealers though).
I'm sure you'll get your problems sorted out eventually but,I do agree mistakes happen, even though they shouldn't...I reckon when they do happen it's how the situation gets resolved that makes the difference.Good luck in getting your issues sorted out Phil.

Ok, just to finalise this, been into see the the Service manager this morning, and i have to say, he was very apoligetic about the situation although he said that he wasnt in last week at all and didnt hear or arthorise anything. He has agree'd to replace my resprayed alloy with a brand new alloy in a couple of days, repair the paint chip and also has replaced the rear light cluster this morning aswell.
His attitude was in the way i wanted to hear and has restored alot of my faith in the dealership. I suggested ways in which i feel communication could of been better to help to resolve the issue alot sooner.
Happy days.
Do i keep the old alloy or do they have the right to keep it??
-
Phil, well done! I think you are doing well to get a replacement wheel :) Could be that they replace it from a used car they have in stock.....in which case you prolly won't get to keep it.
Though i think you secretly still want to see a bucket of blood containing the entrails of the wee scroat who abused your car! (I know I do!!)
Nice to have a happy ending. Congrats!

they dont have Edition30's on their books, so they just cant swop it. He said, 2 days and the new one will be in and he'll call me to arrange.
Im sure that the old one is mine?? not sure what they would do with it?
-
old one is now VW's, the replace it with a new one so the old one is theirs, weather or not theyl want is is the question

Nice one Steve, glad to hear this. With regard to the alloy, they have the right to keep it, but you can only ask. I have never bothered keeping them and normally let the customer take them or scrap them.
Well done fella, good result!
-
well done on getting it sorted :)
-
Good result Steve. Any news on the service charge?
-
i didnt quibble that john, tbh, they did what was asked and so far cars going well, so just glad to get a new pescara out of them. I think he may of panic'd alittle, as i was wearing my Sky Fleece and donning the GolfGTi forum sticker, i think he thought of the Bad press the dealership he might of got .
-
A good conclusion then Steve, and be sure to ask to keep the old one as you never know when you might need a spare!
-
He's probably reading this ;)
anyway was good of them to sort it all out hopefully you get to keep the old alloy as a 'spare' instead of a steel/space saver in your boot;)
-
great news they are sorting it mate, you cant help but think every time things like this happen if only you could have got thought to the ACTUAL person in charge at the beginning rather than be referred to a load of other dimwits first!

I thought they'd just refurbish it and then give it to the next customer who complains about scratched alloys!

Only unreptuble dealers would do that (and I don't think to many would tbh). The others would give it to the customer or skip it...............................................................

im gonna ask nicely, as a good will gesture as they often quoted to me!
