Title: Mk7.5 GTI/GTD Colour Poll
Post by: mon2s on 05 May 2017, 07:05
Interested to know which is already the most popular colour - I'm guessing Isaac or Indium but lets see....

Ordered a White Silver GTD, not seen one in the flesh, but really like it in images I've seen on here, grey was a close contender though...

Wanted Reflex Silver, but that is no longer an option. Looked at Tungsten Silver as the closest alternative, but decided it was too conservative for a GTI. The dealer had a White Silver Golf and the colour didn't appeal to me. So eventually decided to order Tornado Red. It is - in my opinion- the most vibrant, eye catching colour available. Red contrasts well with the black trim and grills on the car. Though the distinctive red stripe on the front will be less noticeable. On the downside - our A3 is red, so I know it is not going to be the easiest colour to keep.

It would be Isaac Blue for me;

- exclusive to the GTI/GTD so a bit special IMO
- quite similar to Carbon Grey that I had on my mk6 GTD - also exclusive to the GTI/GTD - and I loved that colour

I've ordered Indium Grey. Looked good on an R in the showroom when i was browsing and for once, my wife agreed on the colour (never happened before - she must have been distracted ).
(now changed to Tungsten Silver after actually seeing one in the metal)

If this was available for my mk7 Gti it would have been a no brainer perfect match for my other toy

And if I was in the market for a 7.5 and this was available then it's what I would get

None of the colours are that inspiring to be honest. I still like white as it makes the black fins at the front stand out but would probably go either the silver or grey next time round

Wow - Isaac is proving very popular!  I may need to change my colour choice.

Tungsten or Atlantic are appealing.  I like my current Limestone Mk7 because you don't see too many others about.

I've voted for Indium Grey after seeing one parked up outside a dealers earlier this week. I'd feared it may look at little bit beige, however it is far less beige looking than the Limestone grey GTD it was parked next to. It's more in keeping with the neutral greys that are much more my usual taste.

Having said that I might still change my mind to Isaac Blue when I finally see it for myself.

I voted indium grey as that's the colour of mine, however now I've had it for 2 weeks I wish I had picked something like Atlantic as the indium just doesn't have that Wow factor in the flesh it just doesn't pop for me.

Can we include the R here?

I have Lapiz today. It's obviously the signature R colour and really stands out from the crowd. Lovely pop off it in this sunny spell too. But if I were to change to yet another one I could hardly go Lapiz again... that would just compound the madness! Trouble is, the rest of the colour palette is so meh...

I've had white so I don't really want to go there again.
Black - no way.
Red - not for me either.
Atlantic blue - it's a bit too mid-range-Passat for me.

I'd probably lean towards Indium grey but I'd be concerned (like McCaff) that it would just look too drab under our mostly dull grey climate.

Post by: Guzzle on 05 May 2017, 12:26
I prefer Lapiz to any other of the current range.

That'd be the colour i'd go for if it weren't restricted to the R.

Interesting that Oryx white doesn't seem very popular. Probably as there are now two other less expensive whites to choose from.

Interesting that Oryx white doesn't seem very popular.

It's too expensive and most punters would struggle to tell it from the cheaper (free in Ireland!) flat white.

Wish they hadn't removed the CG...don't understand that decision, absolute knock out colour for the GTI with all the red accents...any way Ive ordered dark iron blue as the next best substitute but I fear it may look dull in many conditions...to me the CG seemed to handle dull and still look fresh.

I quite agree. I don't really see the need to offer 3 different shades of white anyway, when almost all the other choices available are quite austere. It would have been nice to have something different like a Firespark Red to choose from.

Funny, I watch the same video and think the white and silver cars in the background look better than the flat light grey in the foreground. I have seen a White Silver Golf in the flesh. IMO the white and silver cars parked either side of it looked much better. But wouldn't it be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.

When I pulled out onto the road today there was a red Mk6 in front of me. I followed it for 2 miles miles then we both were behind two Tungsten Silver AND Reflex Silver Mk7s. As our little procession of 4 Golfs toodled along we passed a red Mk7 which was stopped and indicating right (it was covered in bird poo and looked like it had not been cleaned in a month ). The thing is I live 2 miles past the middle of nowhere! On my way into town today there were 4 other Golfs all in the colours I like. I then thought, are Golfs common or popular  Definitely popular!

My view is to forget the "exclusivity" factor.
Who knows if colours will be made available on other models in the future, unless it is advertised as a "signature colour".

My advice is to simply choose the colour you like best. I am really pleased with my Atlantic Blue GTD. In the sun, the flakes shimmer and the car looks stunning.

In my view (and it's only a personal choice...!) there are so many white, silver and grey Golfs around, the blue is something different. My last GTD was Limestone, which was nice, but a bit dull. It certainly never shimmered the way the Blue one does now.

But ... we all have different opinions ....!

Don't know if this helps anyone but I finally found some decent pics of a GTD in Isaac Blue/Dark Iron Blue.

Most of the other pics I've seen are either under showroom lights or blazing sunlight so it's nice to see it in natural daylight.

It's the colour I've gone for on my new GTI too and if this is how it looks I'll be over the moon.

Nissan Nightshade is a metallic colour and it's the metallic flake particles in the paint that makes it appear to change colour in different lighting conditions from black to a deep aubergine colour. VW Black Rubin is a non-metallic colour so will look pretty much the same colour (burgundy/maroon) under all lighting conditions.

If there's a Black Rubin Golf that you've seen on VW's website that's a reasonable distance from where you live, why not go and see it 'in the flesh'. That way, you'll know for certain whether you like it or not.

Black Rubin is a colour that was available (albeit with a different name) on Polos circa 2008 and also I've seen more recent Audi's with it too.

Its definitely purple. Very purple.

I'm actually surprised to have not seen more on the road yet, but then again I don't think I've seen a single 7.5 driving around yet - only at dealers.

Probably because of the stupid lead times!

Finally some proper photos of Isaac Blue, thank you. Really nice colour. Though just like Indium Grey it is going to look better up close in a show room, than on the road where it is going to blend in. Not a lot different from the other dark cars in the background.

On our quiet country road there were 5 Golf's last Friday. If you don't want common then you are looking at the wrong car. Though I prefer to use the word popular

White contrasts really well with the red and black trim. Our roads are regularly covered in mud, so I had to rule it out. And I'm not a hairdresser (https://justwalkwithme.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/throwing-tomatoes-emoticon.gif?w=52)

The car that the guy was sold from the dealer had cloth seats and he was adamant he wanted leather. So they used a company that does interior work for them to retrim the interior. IMO the interior looks awful.

I'm interested to see what the Velour looks like as i have ordered that!

Yeah... all the colours are very light sensitive and I suppose a phone camera isn't the best for capturing how it really looks. Indium grey looks very flat/dull/dark in some photos too and in others it looks a lot brighter.

I think the brighter colours such as white / white silver work very well with the 7.5.

True Tornado Red is flat but is far from flat in the way it can really glow. On a sunny day after a wash it's so vibrant I reckon mine can be spotted from the space station

Tornado red looks class. I've changed my order to Silver White though. What's people's opinions on the Santiago or Brescia's? I've ordered the Brescia 19" as I've not seen many GTI's with them other than the Clubsport.

Yes, this is one of my biggest gripes with the GTi/GTD. The colour pallette is rather limited if you don't like dark colours. Three shades of white, flat red and Tungsten Silver.

Actually I find it quite forgiving, even when fairly mucky when the light catches it right it still looks great. Plus I'm a right lazy old bugger so don't do that much or spend much time on it. So long as it has a good layer of wax and a good spray of QD after a wash,  job's a goodun

I've got Santiagos and think they look great, but, I'd have gone for Brescias given the choice as 1 they look just as good and 2 they are cheaper though not sure why. Buying them seperately there is about a 1000€ difference - does anyone know why?

Have to agree. Although the Golf is clearly the nicer car, i'd take the Leon's Mystery Blue or Desire Red over anything in the straight-laced GTi pallette.

I saw the Isaac Blue on a GTI in person today. Looks nice, pretty much like gunmetal grey. It's nice, but shows the dirt really easy and I don't think it will stand out much to be honest.

Should have gone with the "purple nasty", seems nobody much wants that.

I'll bet those VW marketing people are rubbing their hands with glee at the success of their cost optioned paint upsell campaign.

Yep, pick what is likely to be the least popular colour as the 'no cost' standard colour, so almost everyone will pay for a different colour.

With solid colours having a clear lacquer coat these days, it'll cost VW no more (or very little extra) to paint a car solid red or white or a metallic / pearlescent colour than it does to paint it Black Rubin; all have a base coat plus clear coat, so the process is the same. The exception might be Oryx White which has an extra stage in the painting process (a separate pearlescent coat applied to Pure White before the lacquer coat).

Easy money for VW.....

From the various photos and videos I'd seen of White Silver, I liked it. However, I saw a White Silver Golf in the flesh the other day and now I'm not so sure.

It wasn't a performance model, and I daresay that a White Silver GTI with the red accents would look quite good. However, the one I saw did look a bit like a car that had been primered but VW had forgotten to apply the colour coat. If I wanted a light coloured GTI I think I'd choose Pure White over White Silver and save myself £290, although in reality, I'd go for Isaac Blue, which is the same cost as White Silver!

It's good that we don't all like the same things though.

Funny that I always regret not ordering yellow on a 182 Clio at a whopping £1000 on a £14k car. Only a handful found on U.K. Roads.Great yellow, but sorry chaps don't like this turmeric on anything other than the r line in ads. It's basically not yellow enough and too metallic for an R. Look at Ferrari and Lamborghini for instance.

On the front cover of the latest VW Driver magazine there is a photo of a White Silver GTI. Inside there are plenty of high quality photos for anyone who has yet to see the colour in the flesh. In the review, they describe the colour as "unusual". Anyone like to read between the lines on that colour description?

The red GTI trim does make it look a little better. Though I'm still not a fan of the light grey colour. It is too "unusual" for my tastes :undecided:

Saw a basic Golf in white silver at dealers and it looked terrible which was disappointing as it was my preference. The GTi may look better but can't see the red stripes transforming the colour. Purple isn't for me either so it's got to be a metallic as don't want pure white again and not sure red is for me.

Probably not. If ordering now it would likely be Indium Grey or Atlantic Blue. Love the white but no point getting same again and the non metallic white seems to chip ridiculously easily.

I have gone for Indium Grey, fortunate to have seen majority of colours in the flesh so I could make an informed decision!

White silver was my first choice and I wanted to love it, but very marmite, in the showroom under lights it looks very glossy but outdoors in natural light I think it looks very dull. Oryx White the best white colour option but £££.

Played it safe with Indium Grey which i'm happy with.
