I am personally gutted that Chris has finally left the breakfast show, i've listened to him every day through early breakfast in to the afternoon show and every morning on the breakfast show, i know he has his haters but for me it's a sad sad day..
-
Good riddance
I stopped listening to him years ago. Never known someone so in love with the sound of their own voice
-
Is it bad that i only listened to hod show for the first time today, and thought jesus he's a t**t! X
-
Just the sound of him and his arse licking crew
-
 So...out of interest, what does everyone else listen to in the morning?

Whatever is on my SD card
-
I used to listen to him every evening on the way home from work, then in the mornings after he took over the breakfast show.
BBC are making a huge mistake getting rid of the show. Time will prove this.
-
Regardless of what people think of Moyles I think the listening audience is going to be even more split once Grimshaw takes over, I can guarantee the figures plummet dramatically.

The Beeb arent commercially driven so I doubt they will give a sh!t. Your licence fee will still go up. Its just it will help fund some other worthless so called celebrity......

Couldn't agree more. They should have given the gig to Greg James, he's a happy fellow and full of energy. Grimshaw sounds like he's coming off a hit of heroin.

Greg James is about as interesting as drizzle.
-
I was genuinely surprised that Greg James didn't get the gig actually seeing as he's risen in the time-slots so rapidly.
-
Should've been Westwood...
-
 So...out of interest, what does everyone else listen to in the morning?
At the moment, Far too Loud.....
-
I think Scott Mills should be doing the breakfast show now.
-
Each to their own Gavlar. But listening to Grimshaw always brings up a little sick in my mouth...

10.6 on the thingyometre

Westwood is fun, I'll give you that. But my goodness that man is a proper stain and he is so full on, all the damn time!

Not a bad shout, although somewhat predictable, which would go against R1's form.
-
Even Scott Mills is getting on a bit these days, i would have liked to see Sarah Cox come back.
-
Ding dong the Twatch is dead.
Good riddence.
It's just this all over again:

Needs doing from time to time.

I think Chris was a bit different to the usual crowd and to be honest i'm not sure what to listen to now, i can't stand Chris Evans and local radio is just too cheesy so i guess it'll have to be radio 4 until Ken Bruce comes on.
-

Yes, he was a far larger c*nt than most DJs and loved the sound of his own voice far more than most.
Go Digital and listen to 6Music. Much better.

I'd have to get a DAB tuner for my truck, but actually i hadn't thought of that.
-
6music is by far the best. Shaun Keaveny is funny. Fact.
-
mornings wont be the same anymore!
but ill continue to radio1 it through the day! my local radio is shiiiiite!
-
I give grimshaw six months, I just can't see his style working on a breakfast show. He's a hipster twit and I for one will be switching over until they see sense and replace him with Greg James
-
I would've thought Grimmies style is more suited to a late night painfully cool audience.

Which is where he derived from.
I concur, 6 music is the way forward.
-
I'll miss the show, it was nothing more than banter, but Chris knew how to really push the limits, without actually doing any harm.
I also think that the BBC is totally out of touch with its audience! people in their 40s and 50s are still listening to Radio1 on a regular basis... times have changed!

The point is that these are not the demographic Radio 1 is designed for. If you're that age and still listening to R1 don't complain about anything about it, because your view is simply not valid for the purpose of the station.
And if you're listening to it and find it annoying, change over to something else! I know I did a long time ago!

Radio 4 or Classical FM perhaps?

Radio 4 or Classical FM perhaps?
Do pay attention numbnuts, the answer is further up.
-
I watched the last 2 days on iplayer live and it was OK, it's the end of an era and he was good, the ratings prove it. He got cocky for a while and abused listeners but got smacked back into place and got better from then on. He's actually a nice guy and not at all like this show persona.

They still have to abide by the rules and regs. Radio 1 is 'licensed' (easiest way to explain it) as a 15-25 age range station and Moyles' show age range was 25-35 which obvious isn't what radio 1 are aiming for. 2 years 'holiday' @ £600k each, not bad
-
Rumour online is that he will be back in the 10pm-midnight slot in 2013.
-
Interesting.
-

That would be particularly unusual. Not something I can remember happening before.
Start off dead of night, move to late evening, then afternoon slot, then morning, then out of it because you've saturated everyone's tolerance.
-
i think he was great as above new how to push the limits but not to far , i actually think he was very talented and clever as he wrote all the funny songs and jingles himself .the crew were abit arsse licky but he was funny . better than dev who s on before him , what a unfunny idiot he is . cant stand that grimmy s voice . capital radio from now on .
-
1Xtra, simples!

Gangsta!
i think he was great as above new how to push the limits but not to far
Yes, but I'd expect that from someone who doesn't know the difference between knew and new and to and too.
-
It might have gone differently if they'd got rid of "comedy" Dave a while back! What a waste of oxygen he is!
I was listening when the old producer Rachel was on the other day, i thought they made a mistake when she left but my god i was wrong! Her voice is so annoying and i'm from the midlands!!
-
I think it would be interesting to hear Chris without his posse which would mean he'd have to play more music and his musical taste is a bit dubious at times.
-
all Radio DJs seem to have a massive crew with them lately, whatever happened to just presenting a show yourself?
-
He is such a tool. Am not going to miss his annoying voice at all. A 4 hour show and he may have played 5 songs tops.
I feel radio should be for music, not mugs with over inflated egos who has a team who all have brown noses and tongues. Dom seemed to be the only one who was down to earth and not a complete moron.
However, Grimshaw does defo sound like he is on a come down permanently.
-
There are still other radio stations that aren't 6 music!?
-

3 and a half hour show and if it was so annoying why did you listen to it all and count the songs?
-
His time had come, I wont miss him
-
Radio 4
The Today Programme > Radio 1 Breakfast.
In fact i'll extend the comment to "All of Radio 1 is utter sh!t".
-
6music is by far the best. Shaun Keaveny is funny. Fact.
Nail on head.
How anyone can listen to Moyles is beyond me. I'm sure he's a nice guy and I'd love to go for a pint with him but c'mon, the show was terrible, it was radio's equivalent to reading the Sun or Star.
-
Radio one is pump, apart from when Trevor Nelson is on. That man is a legend in my eyes.

I spent a fair few morning in the passenger seat of a car having to listen to the awful show full of moronic chit chat and infantile games and minimal music.
-

where I work there is 1 DJ, 1 News girl, 1 traffic & travel / guy to take the piss out of. Then the other station they own has 1 DJ on in the morning sharing the news girl with the other station. It's the Beeb and other big commercial stations that have a larger entourage of people behind the scenes. Smaller stations have the presenters/news people doing most of the show, and yes they are bitter about it
-
I agree with most on here, although I suppose I'm the type of person/age that Radio 1 are trying to move away from.
Chris Moyles was excellent imo, and Grimmy will be caught in the headlights there. As soon as they announced he was taking over, I was shocked as I really don't like his show. Boring as dish water. Scott Mills is brilliant, and never fails to make me laugh when I listen to his show in the afternoon. He would have been the perfect replacement, even if he is "getting on a bit".
Love you bye!
-
Didn't mean to generalise Jay as I know most still have just the single person doing the show but even Wave (not my choice to listen to it, I usually chuck my Ipod on) has three people presenting the morning/evening shows talking mindless drivel and making themselves out to be heroes
-
Mills is older than Moyles? a month in it if that?
Chris was the best thing to happen to radio 1, epic shows, great followers, loads of chit chat and cutting out all the crap music, taking the mic out of the public and stars alike.
Raised more money than most ever will for charity... the list goes on..
Roy walker?
Even Scott Mills is getting on a bit these days, i would have liked to see Sarah Cox come back.
-
But is it full of crap ad's all the way through? and loads of banter?
May give it a listen if thats the case.
6music is by far the best. Shaun Keaveny is funny. Fact.

Did he not sit in last year for a week on his own when Mills was ill, they asked a load of DJ's to do it and he said sod it and went in on his own....

Edited my original post as it didn't come out how I originally intended it to

Reggie Yates, he is a legend!

especially after his tourettes programme....."girl thingy for sale"

The BBC aren't commercially driven: true. But as part of the licence each station has to justify itself as catering for a different audience. Radio 1 is aimed at 14-24ish, Radio 2 is 24-40ish, Radio 3 - specialist classical/jazz music, Radio 4 is 40+ talk/news/current affairs/documentary, Radio 5 is for news and sports, 6Music - specialist music, etc.
The Chris Moyles show was no longer attracting the right audience for Radio 1's demographic.
I met him about 10yrs ago and he was quite egotistical then, so after so many years proclaiming himself as the "saviour of Radio 1" (and with the ratings back him up) his ego has just grown and grown.
The same thing happened with Chris Evans when he did the breakfast show on Radio 1 before. But he left and had a long break. Now he's back on Radio 2 for the breakfast show and he's much better than he used to be.
By the way, the licence fee is currently frozen, so it's not costing you any more and the replacement for Chris Moyles is likely to have a much smaller salary. Indeed even the new Director General of the BBC who started today has a significantly smaller salary (about £100k less) than the previous guy.
If you don't like what's on the BBC radio stations, don't listen, it's your choice. Personally I can't stand listening to commercial stations, I hate the way the adverts get in the way of the music and chat.
If you want to listen to something on the way to work, but you don't like what's on the radio, why don't you try downloading one of the millions of podcasts available.
-
Most of the Moyles haters are simply jealous and just jumping on the populist bandwagons. They hear a few people say bad hate filled words for unfounded reasons and think 'well maybe if I jump onto that bandwagon, I can look to be sharing a popular view too'.
I liked the Moyles show, it was funny, broke up a part of the morning and sh!t music that swamps R1. But sh!t music aside which is all over R1, the reason I listened to Moyles was for a laugh, he was funny, his team were funny, it was a really entertaining show.
R1's ratings will be hit by his departure. I've turned off R1, no reason to listen now. So I'm now broadening my horizons now with a spot of R2 in the morning and sometimes LBC also.
-
Loved his show and the morning drive to work is now very boring :(
loved the banter they got up to and it wasnt the stupid banter that mills does.
-
Yes Radio 1 will never be the same , not a fan of Grimmy
