What size are they?
-
look very smart Gossa, better than the monza's mate
-
Thats a Golf R, oh hang on , it isnt!!!
They look superb!!.
Just get your wing mirrors done in Black gloss and your on a cheaper lookalike right there
Did you pay much??
-
18x8 Tallydoodah reps, £300 fitted. They are actually lighter than the Monzas. The only issue is offset/rim width as they stick out a bit at the front.
-
-
Love it! well done fella!
-
I have been thinking of a set for mine at some point.

Nice wheels. Only £300 for fitting and wheels? Am I wrong?
But sorry Gossa, I prefer my Mona Lisas to your Tallyhoos. But this is my taste.
My favourite are the 19 inchers of Neil and Ess.
Congratulations anyway.

42's and got them of a company in Lymington called Reevawheels, they have an ebay shop which is how I found them. The front's do stick out further than I would like though so these will probably stay on until the Monza's are refurbed. I am warming to them though, powdercoated black would be nice!

No that's right, £300 all in. I too prefer the Monzas and as said in that post there ^, I will be putting them back on after a refurb and a new set of Sessanta boots....

Im thinking Black versions would go well with our tornado's

Bloody hell. That's the deal of the centuary. Amazing value. Fantastic find. Wow.

I got a mate that will paint them for about £40 a wheel or I can get them powdercoated cheaper but the finish aint as good.
And £300 is about right for chinese reps in 18, they have got 19's as well for £400.

You, sir, are a braver man than I.

Looks good
-
Yes... I really like the look of those on your car. Powder coated black would be better as discussed above. Great wheels for the winter or while the monza's are being refurbed.
I've just had a look on their ebay site and I'm seriously considering a set of those on mine.
Could I be cheeky and ask that you post a pic of the fronts, so I can see the possible offset problem......? or PM me a pic?
Thanks v much

Would be a good idea to buy a set of these for rough winter use.
They really are as 'cheap as chips' and look pretty good too.
Good on you Gossa. What a find!

19's at £400 is well worth a punt, in gloss black finish though in my opinion

Hmmmm... I'm tempted to get a set of the 18's - have them powdercoated black - and get some winter tyres on them.
I wonder if winter tyres come down in price when its not snowing and theres no mad rush for them?!
-

My thoughts too .... although I think I'd go for an anthracite grey for my Rising Blue
Gossa, can you tell me if the OEM VW center badges fit perfectly in the hole ? or are they 3rd party VW badges on yours?
Cheers

The centre caps, badges and bolts were included too. Good thing as the locking nut adapter won't fit in the bolt hole. On the offset I reckon these sit about 15mm further out than the stock wheels, rears are quite flush but fronts sit out a bit, bearable but not perfect.

-
Im out. No stretched tyres for me.
-
So both the OEM VW bolts and centre caps won't fit ?
The E-bay ad says the 18"'s are ET 45, which is only 5mm different from the ET 50 of the OEM VW wheels ?
Seems odd that they stick out so much further ?

The rims are 8" though not the stock 7.5". The OEM bolts fit fine, it's the locking adapter that is too tight to get in. That pic looks worse than it is because of the angle.
-
Cheers for the info & pic
I have 19" OEM VW Talladegas on mine and they are 8J x 19" :-
ET50
8Jx 19
5 x 112
Part No :- 5K0601025M (around £540 inc. VAT for 1 wheel  )
The OEM tyres are also 235/35
Not sure what the OEM 18" Talladega width is
So an ET45 should make a 5mm difference on mine I think for the wheel ?
You could always get a set of the little black plastic guards for your GTi that come with the R
-

Come on snoops get with the program, all the kids are stretching their tyres these days mate!.....
-
235/35

Quite off topic: What is that plastic bit that sticks out (above the wheel) which is attached to the bumper and the wing?
GTis on't have this. Just need to know if you don't mind, please.
-
i think the wheels look really smart :)
-
That's the bit that stops road debris being spat up your bodywork. I don't like it myself but the R runs wider tyres so needs it (rather than modifying arches etc like an RS4 to cope).
-
Quite off topic: What is that plastic bit that sticks out (above the wheel) which is attached to the bumper and the wing?
Not totally sure tbh, but I think it is something VW had to do to stay within some EU regs or type approval or something.
As I said above the optional extra 19"' Talladegas are 8 inches wide and come with 235mm width tyres as standard. I suspect this meant the tyres may have been slightly more "sticky out" than VW originally designed the Golf Mk 6 for. Hence they had to add the little black plastic guards as an afterthought.

Makes sense. Same at the rear, I see.
Thanks.

Chinese replicas, wrong offset and stretched tyres...
-
You really need 235s on an 8 in wide rim. I had 225/40s on my previous BBSs (8x18) and they were a little stretched. The 235s on the Interlagos sit much better (also (8x18).
As for the offset of these reps, well they're similar to the Interlagos and the Interlagos (genuine ones not reps) also sit a little proud of the front arch.
I won't go into the genuine vs rep thing though. You pays yer money and you hopes you don't have a wheel break on you.
Reps are usually fine if they are from an EU factory. But unless there's a little TUV certificate in the box I'm always a little concerned about the quality control services in the factory.
-
Would the tracking need to be reset with the wider wheel/different offset?
-
Interlagos (genuine ones not reps) also sit a little proud of the front arch.
Yes, you're right, though I don't think mine stick out as much as the above. It could just be the photo, or the angle that's exaggerating it, I suppose...
-
Would the tracking need to be reset with the wider wheel/different offset?
Not unless you went silly wide or extreme offset or if it was marginal anyway. It's only once you start disturbing suspension components by lowering that the tracking and camber/castor starts going way out of toe.Interlagos (genuine ones not reps) also sit a little proud of the front arch.

Completely different angle and a bit of a lame shot, but here's how much my front 'sits out'.
-
Gossa,
Your Rep v my Monza, see pic below.........Sorry bored at work!
Is it the tyre that makes it stick out a bit? What tyre make and size is it?
The wheels are a bargain though and IMO they really look good. I'm tempted to by some. Do you get any sort of warranty or paper work with rep wheels? Did you tell your insurance?
Thanks mate

I'd say it is more the angle the picture was taken at as the silver one is more straight down the length of the vehicle whereas the red is at a definite angle. Probably enough to make the tyre / wheel appear to stick out even more.
-
It definately looks more tyre sidewall related. On my 8x18 BBSs which were ET44 (thus very similar to the R reps in dimensions), I initially had Conti 2s which sat nice and square on the rim. When 2 wore out I replaced them with Conti 3s 'cos I couldn't get hold of 2s cheap enough. I thought being from the same stable they would sit more or less the same but that wasn't the case. The Conti 3s had big rim protectors and these made the tyres sit very similar to Gossa's.
So I reckon it's a tyre thing.
They look really nice whatever. Would look a bit nicer again in black against the red car, so being reps they'll probably want a re-paint after a while (not that many OEM wheels fare that much better in that area) and that's the time to experiment with colours.
-
I sell bikes and some of the best ones in the world are made in China, most bikes in the tour de france this year will be made in, yep, China. I had a good look at the wheels before buying them, the quality is fine and more than acceptable for £300.
Those front tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and they don't stuck out that much, probably only a tad more than the 235's on the R.
Anyways, Monzas off to Spit and Polish Tuesday and Vredestein Sessantas delivered today so a week or so and i'll have the Monzas (the best wheel ever for a GTI) back where they belong!

Or,
Do they have a higher level than normal of wear and tear?

I have to be honest, I kurbed one slightly but she did a much better job on two others!!! So three down I thought i'd just get them done. As for tyres, replaced the front Dunlops at about 11K with PS3's but gonna keep those tyres on the rep wheels and put four new Sessantas on the Monzas (amazing looking tyre!)

I agree. Quite a looker. I never thought I'd say this about a tyre!
Designed by Ital Design: Guigiaro.
Supposed to be a brilliant all weather tyre.
Just read that VW have now taken a controlling stake in Ital Design who employ 900 staff.

Mmm, I see you've used the smug smiley, is that what you think you are with your R on this forum? Isn't why the R forum exists so you can all be smug together congratulating each other on spending up to £40K on a golf?

Except those are a tad expensive, mine are £90 each.

I guess it's OK to hijack my own thread.
Camskill are out of stock of 225/40/18 until mid/end June. I got mine from CSS Chirk services in Wrexham, £370 delivered for four, they also advertise them on ebay. These guys seem to be the only ones with stock currently.
I can't tell you how they roll as I've never tried them but having been underwhelmed by the Pilot Sport 3's I'm going to give them a go, will report back.
-
Underwhelmed by the PS3s?
WOW, I was under the impression these were supposed to be the best. Makes the Sessantas look even better value then.
Having tried neither I can't comment on my own experiences but the Vreds seem very highly rated by various forum hotshoes so they should be pretty darn good.
Fingers crossed you get on better with these.

I can't tell you how they roll as I've never tried them but having been underwhelmed by the Pilot Sport 3's I'm going to give them a go, will report back.
Love to know how quiet or noisy those beauties are.
I feel that the Bridgstones suffer with a bit of road roar. I've found getting the tyre pressures correct makes quite a difference to the ride and the noise.

Let me rephrase that, I wasn't overwhelmed! I had the Dunlops as stock and even though everyone slates them they were excellent in terms of wet and dry grip, noise, wear rate etc. When the fronts wore down to a limit that I would normally replace them (nowhere near the limiters), I changed the fronts for Michelin PS3's (no need to put the new ones on the rear as the rears were showing hardly any wear and i wanted to compare like for like on the driving axle).
Were the PS3's grippier than the Dunlops? No. Quieter? No. Better quality? No, not even made in France now. And they came with a shockingly shallow tread depth from new. So I have read nothing but good things about the Sessantas and I think they look stylish and innovative too. The fact they are great value is an added bonus but price is never an issue with me and tyres, the PS3's were £150 a pop fitted, i'd gladly pay for the best as the tyres are the only thing keeping you on the road.
Will report back on the Sessantas when they are rolling.

It's an old test now, but probably still relevant for the Sessantas :-
