Because he won't be able to sell an 8v for the price of a 16v.

and we all know he'll end up getting a non-turbo scooby with a hood scoop   :lipsrsealed:

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Because it can work out cheaper, he might want to do it/enjoy it, if it's a solid shell then it can also make sense etc etc

Spot on :afro:

My shell is pretty much sound. Sills are starting to show age but nothing a spot of welding can't sort. Suspension needs a makeover all round, and rear axle needs some attention (stub axle and bushes). But apart from that, shells is pretty much in great condition.

Have to agree with Wayne on this, alot of effort to do really.
What's actually wrong with the 8v lump?
I would spend the money on that, but then it is your motor.

Cyl 3 piston rings are pretty shot.

Cyl 1
Dry   190
Wet  195

Cyl 2
Dry   180
Wet  195

Cyl 3
Dry    180
Wet   215

Cyl 4
Dry  185
Wet  185

Got blow by

It really wouldn't survive a 3500+ mile trip in the space of 3 weeks, and the engine has been feeling lazy, unresponsive and flat lately too.

If you had a problem then the dry pressures wouldn't be that good.
Maybe try a leak down test.
