Need help with my locks!
« on: 12 December 2008, 18:14 »
Hi all, I'm trying to move my passenger side lock barrel over to the driver's side but it's just not working..

Am I even able to use a passenger side lock in the drivers side?

When I got the car, it had a different lock on drivers, but original lock on passenger - I'm in the middle of de-locking the passenger to move the barrel to the driver's side..

cheers!

Did you keep the key in the lock barrel as you removed it and transferred it? If not, then you may have lost some of the gates  (tumblers) and springs and without those, your lock will take on a different code or not work at all.
The barrels are not handed so it should work if positioned correctly.

Nope, keys were in the barrels and I lost no gates.

After inspecting the barrels, it seems they have different little grooves, etc. so won't work!

I'm halfway through a gates transplant... Wish me luck!  :embarassed:

Been there. Done that! Lost the springs. Found them again. You need patience doing that...alot of it!
Good luck!

Well I just rebuilt the other one and that one worked fine! So it's not something I'm doing wrong..

Right, so I just removed all the gates from the barrel and tried it out in a handle and it turns fine - which must mean there's something wrong with the gates!

Time for some trial and error..

EDIT: Well, number 3 Gate is the bad'un! The lock turns fine without this one in..

So am I still fine to use this barrel even though it is missing one gate?
