Help with Sub and compatability
« on: 11 December 2008, 23:46 »
Hi I have just purchased a 10" vibe active sub, I am currently running a Blaupunkt London MP35 can I attach the sub to this or a JVC KD-G162. I am getting conflicting advice from the audio websites so can anyone help please.
Also will the install be easy in a MK 3 golf 3door?
Cheers Chris

There are the specs for your head unit, and from what I see there, its got two 2v pre-outs for amps.  In which case I would say yes, you can connect an active sub to this unit.  Working on it being the same principles as cabling in an Amplifier, you will need to run power and remote to the boot to power the sub (plus find a suitable earthing point in the boot), and a set of RCA's from your head unit to the boot for the audio signal to the sub.

Well if its got a preout for sub, then there is no reason why not, but the amps built into headunits are not bery powerful at all. 18W rms, compared to like 350 or 500 for what a monoblock amp would give. so bass and the sound quality of the bass will be pretty bad.

defo worth getting an amp though, quite cheap of ebay, easy to wire in to and you get much better sound quality, especially if you amp the speakers as well.

Same principle with active units as normal separate amp n sub units. active ones only realy remove theneed to connect speaker wire between amp and woofer. And also saves a little space being integral to the woofer box structure.

All the best with it.
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???
