right. Designa Dubs are doing the conversion.
I wouldn't bother with the golf's engines tbh. The conversion at DD will cost ?4250+VAT (?4999). A lot of money you'll be paying for 30bhp odd increase. One of the earlier 20vT heads actually had larger valves than the rest. I can't remember which one though. AGU? the 150bhp 20v's also have weaker internals than the others. the 225 has a slightly lower CR of 8:1 compared to 8.5:1 with all the rest. I also heard somewhere that the VVT heads only give a 2-3% increase in power.
My engine is from a Audi TT. It's the 180bhp version as the 225's are less easy to find. I could of waited for a 225bhp version, but after talking with Prash Reedy about his 180bhp TT lump that's running 270bhp I was happy with my choice. My engine actually came from REVO, but most come from insurrance write offs. DD don't use engines with less than 10k on the clock or more than 15k. So the quality 'should' still be there, although already run in.
The cat took it's rightfull home in the skip

The MOT rules go on the year of the car. 1987 then

Which is sweet cos without it it unlocks a fair few Gee Gee's. i've been told after removing the cat and a few other bits and bobs the 180 engine can easily be running 225/230bhp. Plenty to start with

Also adds ammo to the "why didn't you buy a new car" arguement.
I'm using a mk4 20vT 'box as the TT one is 4wd. This has a Hydraulic clutch and is cable change so modifications have to be made to the pedals and shifter. I'll probably hate the clutch now as I loved mine being right at the top of the pedal travel. I think the trottle is now running drive-by-wire aswell.
Does it fit straight in? yes and no. From what I've read on the interweb 2 of the 3 mounts bolts straight in. the other has to be removed from the old mk2 engine. not a problem.
the management I'm running is the 'standard' VAG one using all 16 sensors. When I first contacted them Paul (who's now left DD) told me the Motec standalone management only uses 8 seonsors and VAG had spent A LOT of $$ (or should I say DM) getting this right. I think everyone will agree the 20vT is one fine motor in terms of tuning. Unfortunally for thieves (and us) they also incorperated the imobiliser circuit into practically everything. The clocks, the key, the ecu. Aparently REVO have just finished some code to remove that ECU part. Basically the whole management loom has to be installed. Cos I had the older K-jet 8v there wasn't much to take out. Snowball has S3 clocks in his mk3 dash so I'm hoping mounting the TT ones shouldn't pose too much hard work.
A custom downpipe has to be fabricated to join the TT's manifold to the mk2's exhaust. Powerflow are making mine. That just means you can run any mk2 exhaust from the downpipe back. Once I've got some more pennies I'll get powerflow to make up a whole system.
ok
the above is only what I've been told / heard from other people. It could be (and probably is) BS.

anything else?
