Exhaust Pop
« on: 10 June 2004, 10:30 »
Was driving my newly acquired Golf GTi 16v the other day, gave it a bit of a thrashing. Changed from 2nd to 5th and it let out a pop, couldn't make it happen again... Any tips??  ;)

at worst unburnt fuel in the exhaust (due to timing being out) reigniting because it was hot or you got a loose exhaust clamp just tighten them up.

why go 2nd to 5th? you must have been reving the tits off it then changed? could be it was revving high, then you changed, it revved low and the was fuel ignition in the exhaust

It was a hell of a laugh but now you've got me worried. Had a look and there's no holes etc, seems all ok. Think it was cuz I thrashed 2nd to about 50mph and then changed straight into 5th. D'oh!  :P

yeah thats what i reckon cos that is a big rev drop. just get your timing checked to be on the safe side

i think it is more likely to be a small leak in the exhaust system.

Yet another thing on my big fat list of things going slightly wrong with my car. . . . . .Oil leaks, dodgy gearbox, maybe the exhaust going tits up, new pads. . . . it goes on

Mines running about 2 degrees retarded at the moment and tends to pop between gear changes. When the air temp is just that bit warmer (as it has been lately ;D) it doesn't do it.
