Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole .  Of course, this is not a reflection on their product, but I would only trust my car with one of the established and reliable tuners  i.e. Revo, Oettinger or APR.  The rest can just talk to the hand.

x2 - use a tuner who is accustom to the capabilities of the TFSI / VAG group engines. Hyperchips look more like a universal software company.

I agree with what you are saying guys, in that the usual suspects are going to be better in regards to customer service, quality of end product etc.. but the re-map is not for my car, it is for someone else who is looking into using them, the rep has promised a full money back guarantee if not 100% happy, and he seems to know his stuff.
Thing is with a wad of cash waved in front of his nose the price is sub £250 which is half the cost of the big players, so with the guarantee I think we'll go ahead and see what happens.
From doing a little bit of research the company has a multi-million pound backing, so I don't think they are a fly-by-night set up, but some power graphs on the site wouldn't go amiss, so you could see the before and afters.

Love their claimed 'increase' for the ED30

Quote
Power increases from 230 bhp to 65 bhp

Okay so it's a typo.. but they also claim to get 265bhp from the standard k03 GTI

Well, its good that we have a guinea pig test car... however, although he may see nice power increases etc... I would still have question marks medium to long term - assuming he wants to keep the car for a while - because it might go like stink for a while, but then you may see issues later due to these lot not being experienced with the Golf GTI.  Saying that though, 265BHP for a Ed30 after a Stage 1 remap seems very conservative so they may be playing it safe until they get more experience.  If thats the case, then they might not be so bad after all, but then they aren't giving what other tuners can offer on an Ed30 which is 290-300+ bhp.

You could ask about them in the remaps section, Nick from Rtech or John from DNA might know something about them and if they use their own maps or just buy them from somewhere else and flash them to your car.

Right, I've just been to their site.  I think the line, 'you get what you pay for' comes to mind.  As Topher says, they claim the same increase in bhp for both the Golf GTI and Edition 30, but there are other things that really got me thinking, these people are playing fast and loose...

1.  No attention to detail on their website... they've got a pic of the Golf W12 Concept car from last year with the caption 'Golf GTI' where they claim to increase the GTI's power from 140bhp to 185bhp???! WTF   and another where they seem to think that the a picture of a silver Golf GTI with a clear front shot showing the grill saying GTI - the caption however says Golf GT    OK, I thought maybe they have communication problem with the web designers and maybe the product is ok... so I went to have a look at their claims for the R32.

2.  They seem to think the Mk5 R32 produces 241bhp?! Its the Mk4 that has 241bhp - the Mk5 has a factory output of 250bhp. By now I'm thinking that these guys are talking out of their backsides because they claim that their chip gives the R32 261bhp - an increase of 20bhp on a NA car?  I don't think so.  I have read countless posts and spoken to Revo and a remap can only produce VERY limited bhp increases.  You might be able to get 10-15bhp if you combine a remap with bolt-on mods, but then its debatable as to what is actually giving that increase in power.  But 20 bhp with a remap?  I bet they believe in Santa and the Christmas Fairy too.

3.  The final warning sign for me was that they either offer to post you this chip - a big no-no and one of the reasons why TT doesn't like Superchips and their Bluefin product (amongst many others and I have to say, I think he is right about them) or some 'engineer' comes round and fits it for you - without a RR and proper diagnostics like checking your car FIRST before the remap to highlight any possible issues and then tweaking the settings to obtain an optimal setting for your car.

Conclusion:  I would strongly advise your friend to stay away.  Heck, if he doesn't want to spend too much, get the Superchips Bluefin from JKM - they have a special offer on at the moment and I think its a sub £300 price.  Although I wouldn't use them, I would take them over Hypercr8p anyday.

Where's TT anyone

I personally don't know them and I'm the Admin over two forums for tuners specifically, scanning over their website they claim to be the only people in the UK that can do EDC17 Ecu's which is inaccurate, any "tuner" using CMD, Optican or FRC SPI can do EDC17 and there's quite a few of those in the UK. A majority of tuners buy in their tuning thankfully :)
