mine was £285 for the 40 thou service and £160 for the DSG malarky.

they may be including the brake fluid replacment in that price, this needs changing every 2 years.

they dont do the plugs and filters till 60thou.

No idea whats actually being done. I just asked for the price from several local / loaclish dealers which all came out the same. One dealer offerd to slash 10% off so would do it for £300 but I already have it booked up in Croydon for warrenty work so wasnt really worth the hassle of changing it.

Yes its a con :(

I got a 55k service done for £278 which included, all filters changed, spark plugs and longlife oil as opposed to the normal T&D oil.

No, its not a Mk2.  The longlife oil itself is quite expensive.. around the £50-60 mark I think.  I don't understand why you're so concerned anyway as you don't own a Mk5 GTI.

Send a letter to VW UK HQ if you're so concerned at the prices.

Labour per hour is crazy. I think my local garage is 45 to 50 quid an hour. Thats where they make the killing.

To be fair he's right, long life oil is probably a rip off. What makes it different?

I bet if you rang and booked a MKII 16v in for a 40K service it would be the same price.
