Heavy Accelerator pedal
« on: 04 December 2008, 13:40 »
Hi Guys,

Just bought a 2000 1.4 E,

The accelerator pedal is really stiff, is this common or are there any obvious/usual suspects?
I havent had a chance to look at it just yet, as its dark when I get home - something to sort on the weekend hopefully.

Cheers!

Ger

Also, get some grease on the throttle cable & pull it back forth to free up the movement.

hi guys, here is the latest, I could REALLY do with your help on this one.

I took the car to a garage and the guy says there is a fault code with the Throlle Body, and its £695 for a new one from dealer. But he could do us a recon on the current one, which after labour is gonna be about £500 pounds.

Is this likely to be true, can this cause a stiff accelerator pedal? When I opened and shut the butterfly by hand t felt springy enough - ie like any other car Ive ever tried it on.

Does the throttle have some powered servo or something that could cause it to become stiff when driving?
Help!

The throttle body will just need a clean out with carb cleaner! Not sure it would effect the pedal though.

Well the pedal is defo stiff so its effected by something. Hmm, what to do?!
Maybe a second opinion at another garage is the key.

Can I eliminate the throttle body by disconnecting the cable and seeing if the pedal is still stiff, or some other bright idea.....
