Quick cable question..
« on: 30 November 2008, 19:30 »
Ive installed my battery in the boot and I need to run the power cables from it. Ive heard somewhere that you need 9.8mm od at 170A.  I have LOADS of cable from previous amp wiring kits and they are all 8mm, is this going to suffice? is there a higher load on main live cables as opposed to amp power cable?  Only asking as I am skint and cant afford £4 a metre of the stuff!! What AWG is it? 4AWG might suffice but really, should be 0AWG. Suppose you could use two lengths of 4AWG.

Just done this with my track car, cheapest way i found was to cut a new set of good quality jump leads and run a + & - and not the earth from the boot area.

lol yea i did eye up the jump leads!!  Im thinking either chop up the leads as cant go wrong with rating there or go down the scrappers and steal the cabling from a beemer with the battery in the rear

Is there any reason you've put your bat in the boot?

8mm cable is 0 awg - which is perfect for battery/alt wiring. It can tolerate about 245A which is well above what you'll need ;)

The boot is the right place to put the battery in a Golf - it re-distributes the weight backwards which will improve the balance of the car.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

So that's why my car is always toppling over!
