lost keys

hi all well after spending £130 for a locksmith to cut a new key it dosnt work the ignition but the old key did, so does any one know how to remove the barrel without a key i know with a key you turn to poss 2 and press in the pin and pull and out it comes but no key  :cry: thanks scott.

£130 to have a key cut!!!!  :shocked:

For that I'd expect them to sort the problem!! Not for you to have to phaff around, are you removing the barrell to give to them to match up??

£130, I got a complete lock set including the uper part of the steering column for £50 delivered.

I recon the key is coded to the immobiliser/ecu and although it will fit, it wont work the electrics!! if you have the old key (the plastic top piece at least) tape this to the steering near the ignition siwtch and try again....the only problem this can cause is no factory immobiliser!! but as you have said its got a cat1.. it wont make no problems

hi yes it pissed me of no end the locksmith came when i was at work and the misses payed him without checking the key worked, so i got a new barrel from vw and a tumbler kit so everthing works from the same key. the car is a l reg 94 vr6 pre immobiliser so no probs but the alarm well were do i start its a clifford cat1 made in 95 and clifford changed hands not so long ago and stoped making the older fobs and guess what mines the older one so got to replace the alarm .by the way the name of the master locksmith (what a joke) is        dave perchard .                               so all in all not a good month still at least im not paying for any of it as i said before i lent my car to a friend while i did a brake upgrade on his car what a costly upgrade!!!!! so back to the point how do i get the barrel out without a key HELP!!!!!!!! thanks scott.

Take all the trim off around the steering column, disconnect the airbag sensors and unscrew the two allen screws on the back of the wheel to release the airbag (Store it safe & don't drop it).

You will then have access to the steering wheel centre nut, so undo this and get the wheel off. 1) you make need a puller for this - leave the nut still on the shaft so the wheel doesn't suddenly come off and hit you in the face.

You should now have easy access to remove the lock barrel - it really quite simple.  :smiley:
