suspension/ brake questions

right basically im breaking a corrado 16v 1.8, 1990, im using the engine in my mk2 and was wondering if it would be a good idea to get the brakes from the corrado? what would be worth taking? callipers master cylinder etc? im clueles when it comes to this, just need to know what to take off really, and the suspension question is, where the font strut goes through the body of the car its is held on by a 22mm nut, ive changed suspension on quite a few of my golfs but i have always had difficulty getting this nut off, you have to hold it with an allen key to crack it off so previously i have used a 22mm sockert in a set of molegrips, this ruins the socket and hurts my hands alot so im hoping there is an easier method that you guys could tell me, im guessing there must be some sort of spanner but the spanners i have dont work as the nut is sunk in a hole

hold the spinning shaft on the shock with gloved hand through the spring

ipact gun is the best but u wud need a compressor and obviously a gun! have you not got a socket wrench? i usually just use a wrench with a thick rag wrapped around shaft and a set of mole grips!!! be very carefull not to mark shaft though!!!

yeah , and if you will use a set of mole grip's hold right at the top just incase you do mark the shock it is at the top and wont damage the shock seal

i had a 13mm nut welded onto a deep socket slid a allen key through nut to hold shocker and loosened with a ratchet spanner

sparkplug socket is perfect for this, usually they have spanner flats on.  this is prviding the nut hasnt been changed recently as VW have replaced it with a size bigger. However a lambda probe/diesel injector socked fits and has a handy window in the side for the allen key

bump, how do i fit my corrado brakes? they are an upgrade from my 8v ones arent they?

If corrados are the same as golfs the master cylinder will be 22mm, an upgrade from your 8v golf one. IIRC it should be a straight swap
