Fitting Recon head got some Q's
« on: 11 November 2008, 17:34 »
Hi all
Ive been getting stuck into taking my old head off today and ive come across one or two problems.
It says in the ever useful haynes manual that my injectors will just pull out from the head but im struggling to get them out and dont want to break anything is this correct? Do i just need to give them more welly or are there any other ways to do this?

Also im struggling to get at the manifold bolts how do I disconnect the exhaust manifold from the down pipe so i can just pull the head out and deal with it on the bench (need a special tool?)

Got tomorrow off again so will be carrying on with the job cant wait to get it finished no more tappet noise and no more smoke from the shot stem seals and maybe some gains from the port & polish

Sorry if these questions have been answered before im new here  :embarassed:
Car is '86 8v gti k-jet

Thanks in advance
Rich

k-jet inj are just pushed into the inserts, can take a bit of a yank!
if its the 6 bolt manifold you need a ton of extensions for your socket set and attack from underneath, or big spanners.  I try to take the mainold off the head instead though.  If you seperate the downpipe from the front silencer you can pull the head off with both inlets on!  Just put a blanket over the top of the block as soon as you crack the head loose to prevent it getting any knocks as you take out the manifold n downpipe.  It helps if you have a mate as its a bit awkward to lift tho.

head on its own isnt a problem, head with inlet and zaust manifold + downpipe attached isnt so easy ;)
