Strange display issue
« on: 07 November 2008, 20:04 »
Hi there, I just filled up at the petrol station, after doing so I went as i normally do to re-set the Trip computer, I held the button down as i turned the ignition and the display showed - Service Now!

I turned the car off and re started as normal and it doesnt show anything, it was only serviced around 7000 miles ago and is on a long life cycle, and there has been no count down of miles to go.

If i hold the button and start again it shows the same message, any thoughts?

I would have thought it would count down and it should show when starting as usual if it needs a service?

Does the same happen with your display?

Thanks,

Richard

Sounds to me like your dealer has switched you on to time/distance service schedule at your lat service.
Without traction power is nothing!

There are two ways for the garage to cancel your service light.

1 way is to cancel using diagnostic computer and other way is through your dash panel.

If you cancel through your dash panel it reverts service light to time/distance rather than longlife.

So what should i do then, will it be safest just to get the car serviced at 12,000 miles/1 year (will the car notfy me of this?) and at that point can i go back to Longlife or can a garage retrospectively sort it out to be on longlife?

Speak to local garage about service light coming on, they should sort it for you there and then.

And....as you say light only comes on when you touch it when starting, so dont touch it and it will be fine.

Thanks for your reply, there isnt a service light on, only the message when the button is pressed, will the car still know when it does need servicing, sorry to be quite so slow!

it shouldn't reset unless you've hit the other buttons mentioned, should wait till the car is started before resetting the trip from now on though

if you're worried you've messed something up your dealer will be able to tell

As I said before its one of the ways to cancel service light. It says service now because you've intitiated the program to cancel light.
