Running problems
« on: 04 November 2008, 18:25 »
Ok where to begin. my car began running rough a few weeks back. I also changed the dash a couple of days ago for a better one. Since doing this the car is running really rough barely starting and hunting badly on idle. Done all the normal checks isv, vac leaks etc. Could i have disturbed something whilst the dash was out if so any ideas what??. There is also a grating noise comming occasionally when you rev the engine from the dizzy. I did have this off prior to removing the dash so again not sure if ive done anything here. Any help greatly appreciated

Maybe you missed out an earth point when putting the dash back together? Think that would affect the dash more though.

Did you forget to fit the vacuum hose to the back of the clocks?

it seems the pipe was split on the isv. Also gave it a good clean. All is well at the moment

Still having major running problems. Starting still a nightmare. Foot on accelerator when first started and it hardley revs. exhaust also is popping occasionally. Revs plumet when you try to pull away. not to bad when warm but not brilliant. Ive noticed the saucer shape thing on the air box hasnt got 12v going to it. Should it be pushing air out?? could this explain my problems?? Car runs on lpg too and this is not running any good either. I'm running out of ideas now

saucer thing only gets 12v with thottle open, its resposible for firing the 5th injector briefly when you put load on engine i.e. boot it.  but the 5th inj only gets an earth path when cold.  Perhaps the loom is shorting out for this, pull the plug on the 5th injector see if it improves.  I had mine unplugged for a week and it made no difference to how mine ran fregardless of stone cold or boiling hot!

edit: also if you have a spray bottle put a light misting of water over the ign components, check it at night like danny says, look for arcing.
