Insurance (that time again!)
« on: 31 October 2008, 09:51 »
My insurance is due in 3 weeks... so I called Admiral (that's who I'm with).

29/6yrs NCB Protected/19k value/20k miles a year.

Was going to be £586 to renew, but I declared the roundabout nudge in April... NON FAULT, total claim £500.
He goes away....

An EXTRA £170 on top of my premium for a SMALL NON FAULT claim! Suffice to say I will not be renewing with Admiral.

So....
Any recommendations for Mk5 GTI Insurance?

Thinking of trying a specialist now rather than the generic ones.

Cheers,
Lee.

So much for protected no claims! If it's unmodified, I've found esure to be the best price-wise. HIC might struggle but if you make sure you speak to Martin he always does his best.. and ofcourse you get the forum discount

I was soo cheesed off when he told me.

Thing is... I've never even phoned Admiral about the claim it was all dealt with by me direct with the 3rd party. So why load my premium by more than 33%!

Wait.. you claimed off the other person's insurance? That has nothing to do with Admiral then and it isn't a claim at all. I've been with admiral for 7 years and found them always willing to listen to things like this... make sure you ring them in UK working hours though otherwise you get the call centre that aren't authorised to make decisions.

Going to say a non fault 3rd party (100% liability accepted) claim has nothing to do with your insurance, they dont get involved apart from maybe confirming you have insurance.

You still have to declare it as a claim, even if not a claim on your own policy.

Not declaring it would be fraudulent.

No not at all, because it wasn't you doing the claiming, it was the person who hit you!

They ask you if you have had any accidents, claims or convictions ..... even if you haven't claimed you have had an accident so would have to declare it.  To load your premium though as a result is a disgrace if non fault and no claim involved !

I literally renewed 2 days ago through Greenlight.  They (for me with a remap coming) were £497, Elephant (who I am with) were £500 and the other quote I got through another broker specialising in modified cars was £586.
