battery and earth question
« on: 28 October 2008, 11:19 »
car has just sent battery flat again last week turned car over and clocks reset to zero and it was as if it was going to die then started so reset clocks and car ok then parked up friday after a good run  and just went to start it and clocks reset again and battery died
i replaced battery a bit ago with a 063 44ah en390ccc can anyone confirm this is correct battery for car (1989 8v gti pb)
and also could it be a dodgy earth/connector not allowing car to charge properly while running if so which one is it most likely to be
i have put battery on charge and when it has a bit of charge i will pop down and see auto electrician to have starting/charging checked but last time it was ok (2years ago) but if he says its ok again im stumped

avs list beru single probe plugs for a digifant 8v, i recommend you use the k-jet listed tripple probes for no other reason that the single probe ones can be bashed out of spec in transit, tripples do not.

I had a very similar problem recently with mine.

The battery you've fitted should be  fine.
I took mine to Chapmans Auto Electricians near Neepsend and he cleaned some corroded wiring etc and it's all fine now.

Cost me £40, money well spent.

Give them a call 0114 2724541

forgot to say, halfords will test your battery for free :)
might be you have a volt drain somewhere, fold your rear seat forward and make sure the boot light switches off!

boot light doesnt work (would alarm led draw enough power to be a drain)
i have a multimeter somewhere but can never remember what setting is for what
do you know what wiring was cleaned up

after a few hours charge it was as if a new battery had been fitted but where the earth lead from gearbox fastens behind the battery it looks as if something else should be fastened there aswell ?
and do silicon ht leads go hard as some of mine are
cheers for the plug advice
also as i use a 2e dizzy would i need a 2e dizzy cap or a pb one
cheers guys

cap is same one regardless!  clean up all the battery, starter and alt wires.  does your battery light come on with the ign then go out when car started?
