snippage . . .
My dad has a 2001 Audi Quattro 1.8T engine code AVJ, i'm using fuchs 5w40 in it, is that ok?
or should i be using long life? the car doesn't get a very hard life!
Which Fuchs?
Anyway, both their Titan 5w40s are semi-synthetic - so not really good enough for a turbo engine. Even if he drives it like a grandad - he can't change the temperature of the exhaust gasses, which spin the turbo.

I'd personally recommend Fuchs fully synthetic - either Fuchs Titan GT1 LongLife III, or Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro C-3 - both of which are approved to 504.00/507.00. The Pro C-3 should be OK if the catalyst and emissions are perfect, but it they are getting a little tired, then you really need the LongLife III, because it is a low SAPS (meaning it burns much cleaner) and wont mess up the emissions. Or if you are on the T&D schedule, and are happy with a 502.00 oil, then the Fuchs Titan GT1 will be perfect - and it also has low SAPS, which is very unusual for a non-LongLife oil, so handy when emissions could be a concern. All three of these are 5w30 - which will give slightly better fuel economy than your current 5w40. But these three, being quite 'technically advanced' oils, will prolly be expensive.
Some other alternatives (providing emissions are spot on):
Fuchs Titan SuperSyn LongLife 5w30 - meets 502.00, 503.01 (meaning it is specifically for very high performance engines) and 505.00 (for non-PD oil burners) - this is really good sh!t, but prolly too good for the olds.
Fuchs Titan SuperSyn 0w30 - same approvals as above, but slightly better fuel economy. Porsche like this brew.

Fuchs Titan SuperSyn LongLife Plus 0w30 - meets 503.00, 506.01 - the earlier LongLife2 oil - still an excellent oil - but may have issues with needing to top up more frequently than a 5w30. Superb for PD diesels on LL. Great fuel economy.
Some food for thought - HTH
