i've only ever driven remapped 1.8T's and the turbo definietely keeps going beyond 3000rpm in those - can't comment on a non-remapped one though 

don't forget its a light pressure turbo so you'll never get that pronounced kick of something like a scooby or evo etc

I was wondering myself actually if the remap keeps the turbo going. I remember more of a kick from my Mk2, but then being non turbo you haven't got to wait for anything, plus driving a Chevy too often makes other cars feel limp! I'm gonna try and find that thing I read again that says it goes full up to 3000 rpm.
