rev then cut out?
« on: 17 October 2008, 15:09 »
got the project up and running, bit lumpy but it hasnt been driven for about years. Think it needs a new manifold gasket as it sounds tho its blowing, problem is now if i rev the engine then stop the car cuts out

the idle is hunting all the time usually below 1k revs ... also there is a weird high pitched noise then the oil, battery and temp (?) light flash and stay on ...

whats going on?

Low oil pressure. Did you changed the oil filter when you changed the oil? Have you put too much oil in ? That causes low oil pressure too! Could also be a fooked sensor or oil pump

How does it feel when you rev the engine up? Do the revs pick up quick?

yeah changed the oil filter at the same time, the oil level is spot on.

when i rev the engine the revs do pick up quick but when i take off the accelerator the exhaust pops and it nearly cuts out then picks up again  :undecided:

Check out RubJohhny's tuning guide in the maintenance section  It's always a good place to start when looking at why they aren't running too well. I think it's the sensors if the oil level is spot on, *might* be the oil pump but I'm not sure how to tell if it's gone or not  :undecided:
