What to do?
« on: 15 October 2008, 09:54 »
I am about to renew my insurance and it is basically way too high for the car (£2200 if i want to pay monthly is the best quote!!)

I have run a quote on an ED30 and it comes up at £1100 (not bad for 22yrs old and 0 no claims due to some scum stealing my headunit!)

So my dillema is this:

I can afford to get the ED30 as i bought mine outright and so after selling it and splitting mods should be left with around £11k. This means a fair bit of money to put down on the car and then pay it off monthly. My worry is though im moving to london (finsbury park) and the rent is £920 inc council tax (so £460 as im going with my girlfriend) I will also be looking for a job so wont have one for a short while.

Now i can obviously afford it now, i may struggle down the line (but im clever and should do well lol) im also worried as if i pay for the insurance for this can i just swap it over, they lower it for the car and i dont lose out? I want to start rebuilding my NCB ASAP!

I know the majority of you will just say ''go for it'' and i am tempted but some things seem to good to be true and im worried i may be blinded by something i should consider due to the fact i really want it!

I also would quite like the MK6 although i think the market should have started to equal out and so the price will put on with a similar engine to the ED30 quite high!

Hopefully some of you can offer me some level sided advise, i apreciate its a golf forum so you want me to get it but im worried theres something i cant see!

Thanks

I would sell the CTR and get a cheap run around until you have settled down in London and then see how you get on.

If i was going to sell it i would just go without a car for a while, due to the tubes being so close (2 mins from the victoria line)

which company have you been quoted by?

i am just 25 with 6 points and modded ed30 with chip and tb exhaust, greenlight insurance quoted my £597, compared with 1200 for direct line and £1100 for esure, as for this sites preferred insurers adrian flux etc they are an absolute joke wanted £2500.

shop around mate, by that i dont mean money super market

just bought the insurance for my newly acquired Pirelli!

I'm 22, and I too don't have any no claims coz I have not had my own policy until now.

I went with Bell, its £1247 for the year (12 months, not the 10 months bonus accelerator thing). I wasn't getting much better tbh and some places wouldn't touch me until I had 1 years NCB. I paid that in one fell swoop though!

That is good advise but i want to build my NCB, i also dont see the point in buying a cheap run-a-round as it will cost me to buy it, insure it and run it also things are more likely to go wrong. So it will cost me to do this, which means i might aswell keep mine, sell the mods and put it up for sale while hopefully sourcing a car.
