8v or 16v?

give it a few years and there will be hundreds of mg ZR's and ZS's being broken and scrapped due to head gasket replacment not being worth it. I might buy one then and stick a vtec lump in one.

when i was looking for my second mk2 i definatly wanted a gti i found you can find alot more 8v's around. the odd 16v i did see, seemed over priced, scene tax? in the end got a very very good condtion 8v for £500 and loved it. then i put a g60

just saying the price swayed me in the end. i got an ABF in my seat ibiza and its a fine engine to use as a daily, and can also take some abuse on track days, whilst returning around 30-35mpg average, 40 on motorways.

Take the ABF out the Seat and pop it in the Golf along with the G  

Now that would be fun!

16v g60 is anything but ''working with what youve got''. Serious effort!

16v's actually have more lower down torque!  There is a graph on one of the Stickys.....will see if I can find.

Ive owned 5 8v's, 2 16v's and 2 R5 GT Turbo's.

As Jezza says...... The R5 GT Turbo is incredible fun. My PH1 was quicker than any of my Golf's, most prob' due to the boost being wound up to 17psi.....it did go bang in the end  so I bought another one 

I found my 8v GTI's very good cars, a good all rounder if you like. My 16v's all cried out to be diven past 4000rpm which is a bit of a sod sometimes.  The 16v is faster. I had my oak green showing 138mph on this private road I know!  Speedo was out a bit as Road Angel said 127mph. On the same private road white 8v showed 125mph on speedo and 116mph on Road Angel.

I did find my 8v Digi's excellent on fuel.

Id have to say 16v for fun, but 8v for sensibility.

If you can, buy one of each haha!

I bought a 8v as a project on a G plate, was ok, it was a shed so to be fair I cant compare, but the 16v is fun past 4k 

Put it this way, I wouldnt sell my 16v to get an 8v, but I would to get a 1.8t in a mk2

I heard a while ago the ratio was 4 x 8v's to 1 x 16v
