MK3 Golf rear speakers
« on: 21 May 2004, 23:03 »
I am looking to put speakers in the parcel shelf supports of my 3 door MK3.   It does not have any holes to do this, but if you look to the underside of the support, you can see oval shaped plastic strengthening which must be for a speaker, but as I say, no holes for mounting or for a grill.  I'd say it was for a 4x6 speaker.

So has anyone done this before?  Will I be able to create a hole and get a 4x6 speaker in with a grill on top?  Are there some MK 3's already with a grill in the support, so that I can try and get hold of a pair from the scrappy?  The depth is also a problem as a deep speaker would clash with the seat belt reel.

If you have done it, can you recommend a decent 4x6 to do this.

Cheers,

Jamie

quiet a few companies make speakers to fit exactly in the standard positions left in the car when it was made. they aren't usually listed in the mags cos there's so many variations. if you go into halfords they have a book listing them all that should be able to help you :)

you should aready have rear speakers in the rear door cars........ they are 16.5cm

ive just put some sony (custom fit) ones..... in the front of the vr6 it doesnt sound too bad...... the grills just pull off as the same on the front doors thing is on the front ones you need a fine screw driver to prise the grill mesh out......be careful not to mark the surounding plastic..........

the front and rear speakers are 16.5cm.........
they only made the mk 2 with speakers in the rear shelf..... but they dont give any bass of there pretty tinny! if you want bass and a factory look good for theft purposes then get some replacement speakers for the doors..........

and then you can add a sub in the boot!

a 16.5 cm speaker gives off more bass than a 6x4!

halfords sell theses speakers!
like i say there 16.5 cm speaker and there 140 watt!

and they give a nice thud at low volume!
