ok, 280s are more hard to find in the scrappy, but the hubs you need are pretty common. By hubs I actually mean the 'bearing carrier' which is the part the driveshaft, suspension, track rod etc all bolt to. You probably have 239mm brakes, on these the hub and carrier are all 1 piece, so you cannot upgrade to the larger 256 or 280 setup.
The hub on 256/280 is the same just the calipers n carriers that differ, so any 4 stud VAG car (except audis) with 256+ front brakes is what you need! Passats are plentifull in the scrappers and pretty much always have 256 front brakes! 4 stud MK3s often have 256 up front as well, plus you got SEAT ibizas etc etc.
MK3 GTI is probably the most common source of 280 front brakes in scrappies, the calipers n carriers will swap onto 4 stud hubs no bother, as long as it is the 280 setup not the later 288, which doesnt go straight on as there are no 288 discs in the right offset available in 4 stud. You can have them re-drilled, but its a bit of a faff for 8 extra mm!
