Whats going on the valver?

I have put a valver ABF engine in my MK3,  all the electrics are connected now (as far as i know)  and the engine turns over but it wont start,   this could be down to another issue so im not to worried about that.. but there is no ignition lights what so ever!   every thing else seems to work accept for the ignition lights, but i wonder if thats the reason for it not starting because sometimes when i start my 1.8 i turn the key and the engine turns over but will not start,  and the ignition lights all go out i have to let the key off and retry then the lights come on and it fires up. 

Any ideas whats going on here?

Sounds like an immobiliser issue to me. I guessing the engine came from an 1995-onwards car?

The standard VW Immbiliser does this.

Nope    Its an L reg loom and had no stock imobiliser.  it did have an alarm/imob but i removed this and solderd it all back up,  so im a little bit lost.

it's not Immob  as those engines start then cut out if they are still immobilised,  if not strartign at all  i would check for power  ate ecu , coil and injectors, if all of the above have power check for spark  if there is no spark check the enigne speed sensor  that lives behind the oil filter

Knowing me i havnt even pluged the speed sensor in... i will check everything and report back.


Would this cause there to be no dash warning lights what so ever though?  indicator lights etc.. work as normal

no dash lights what so ever ?    check the engine multiplug is fully home,  when the o ring gets a bit stiff  sometimes it can feel fully home when infact its just stuck on the o ring,  bit of oil on it can help.  defo worth checking the engine loom is getting power
