If it's a GTI then 150 is a liitle poor, but i've never seen 300 miles out of a tank but always get way over 200. Your's seems a little thirsty! How much money is a full tank ?28?

its an early gti cab (gli)- havent actually filled it up yet, as it came with a full tank of fuel.

Its looking to get 150-200 though.

Maybe i should keep the revs lower?

It takes a couple of tank fulls and monitoring to get an accurate figure, i wouldn't go by the first tank.  I found that with a full tank, the needle will drop quite quickly but slow down, its not consistant.  With each tank full my driving varies from cruise about to rag the **** out of the old girl.  Keep the revs down if you're skint, but otherwise, enjoy.  Let me know how it goes after a couple of tanks.  Fill her up, reset the trip and drive it how you want.  if it takes ?30 and you get 250 miles out of her thats like 12p a mile.  In my opinion, thats good for a gti, especially a cab.  People who get over 300 miles can't be driving their cars that hard.  It also helps to keep the revs low untill the oil has reached a good operating temp.

i got 300 miles out of my last full tank and i do drive it hard - richard ellison has seen my driving i believe  ;) :D

i have no fuel gauge at the moment so i chose to run it til 300 miles which it did no problems.   i never broke down so i reckon i must have a very fuel economical GTI cab  :)

Mine's a Mk3, so bigger fuel tank, but it is also a bigger engine... Tend to get 300 or so from a tank. Last refuel was 330miles for just over ?40 of optimax (47 litres).

Definitely vote for keeping revs low until the engine's warm though!

As my friends will definitely testify - I drive it hard enough.... I can't wait to get the Koni/Eibach's done so I can slide around roundabouts without that wallowy Mk3 suspension cramping me though... guess my fuel consuption might just climb a bit more once I can really floor it out of corners without the car rolling around... also gonna get the Schrick high-lift cams done at the same time, so I won't know what'll push it up...

i drive mine a lot and usually very hard!!!

Its a Mk1 GTI cab with a 16V mk2 engine.

Theres not a day passes when i dont get the needle in the red!!

My fuel consumption is 30-35mpg, usually aorounf 31mpg though.

If you need to work out the fuel consumption fill it up and reset the trip counter...... when its almost empty fill righ t up again and note the litres you put in and miles on the trip counter.....

My last one was 358 miles on 50.12 litres.  358/50.12 = 7.14miles per litre.... then divide by 0.22 to get gallons. = 32.5Mpg.
