what about informing PVW, Golf+, EVO, Top Gear, edition 38, club GTi, newspapers, 5th gear - basically anyone in the motoring world with some sort of clout - or to sufficiently embarass VW - we all bought a car that was sold to us all as a 1500 only production run ONLY - not god knows how many more !!

Is there any actual written evidence of the production run being limited to just 1500 cars.  If there is, and it is verifiable, then all 2300 Ed30 could actually sue Volkswagen for breach of contract - either as individuals, or as a group action.  Trading Standards - preferably the Trading Standards for Milton Keynes council (because that is where VW UK is officially based) would definately offer some advice, and may even take up your case.  It is basically selling goods under "misrepresentation".

....I think you would lose your case on this question of being sold to as a 1,500 production only because you will most likely find that there is no written evidence to VW limiting their production run. A "Special Edition" is not the same as a "Limited Edition" and no Limited Edition was ever declared.

I agree on being cautious with the wording - however, if verifiable official sources give a definative number, ie "1500", then the wording is irrelevent, and if VW did build, and more importantly, SELL 1501 or more Ed30s, then they have clearly mis-sold a product.  UK law is very clear on these issues.  But the real crux is actually finding the correct official info.

How's this

....Exactly! And that's where matters can become very technical. Any agency and not VW, even if officially appointed by VW on long contract etc, would be technically responsible for what you are regarding as 'misinformation' and even if proved, what would be the result? A meaningless judgement on record - So what?

A full apology would probably be deemed as sufficient satisfaction. The plaques themselves would be merely optional Goodwill. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Reading that again just makes me more sure that if VW fold on this then it will definetly be the last VW I buy.

But it is NOT Volkswagen Germany who are the culprits, it is actually Volkswagen UK who are being utter cnuts.  Volkswagen Germany build superb cars, but are woefully let down, "Customer Service-wise" in the UK buy our stealers and VWUK.

Just feels that you are having the wool pulled over yuor eyes a little bit and makes me feel rather cheated.

I agree whole-heartedly.

I think Audi will be the big benefactor in all this as I personally think I will be going back to the S3 if this is not sorted out to all us (the buyer's) satisfaction.

But don't forget that Audi UK is simply a division of "Volkswagen Group United Kingdom Limited" - and Audi customers, even RS and R8 customers still suffer disgracefull conduct by VWUK.

....

Guys, I'm sorry to point out that "Edition 30 will be limited to 1,500 units" is absolutely not the same as a special "Limited Edition" which, by definition, would have been numbered as such anyway.

Just hope you get your plaques, chase it up, but move on and enjoy what is a great VeeDub.

This excerpt on fifth gear says 1500
http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp?mnk=221&featureid=884&description=VW+Golf+GTI+Edition+30
and Auto Express
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/firstdrives/204459/volkswagen_golf.html

Im sure at home I have an old VW Driver with this figure confirmed too! I will check when I get home and report back if successful!

Fifth Gear and AutoExpress are both laughable and pathetic examples of so-called reliable journalism, and both are not "official sources", so are completely irellevent to this specific issue.

might be missing some of the point here but that letter above states the Edition 30 WILL NOT BE NUMBERED

so why go to the bother of having plaques produced  :undecided:

How's this?

Providing that is actually genuine, then that would be deemed perfectly acceptable proof that the Ed30 was being sold in just 1500 units.  For VW to subsequently make, and sell more than 1500 units is deemable as a "breach of contract".  This could be remedied in a variety of ways, though financial compensation would be the most reasonable at this stage.

What is also clear is that they state the car will NOT be numbered.  Therefore, if VW fail to supply the plaques, then this is a more difficult legal scenario.  As that letter stands, they are under no legal obligation to provide plaques.  However, if they have subsequently written to Ed30 owners stating they will now issue plaques, then they will have to honour that pledge.

Whatever happens though, these plaques should simply be seen as a "goodwill guesture", and should NOT be used as a levering point for compensation for the overbuild.
