i got a set of eibach arbs off ebay for 70 quid!!!!

Cheers will keep an eye out for some of the cheaper mods first. What do they actually do stiffen up the chassis?  :undecided:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-Mk5-GTi-Edition-30-2-0TFSi-06-MILLTEK-EXHAUST_W0QQitemZ290255569189QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290255569189&_trkparms=72%3A1301|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Milltek for £421.50 delivered, good price?

....Don't forget to budget for fitting. Be aware that serious time and effort can be involved in removing a very tight stock exhaust!

If you plan to remap you need Hi-flow+Downpipe aka Turbo-back.

....ARB's will reduce body roll and nose dive and work as a package with other suspension mods.

Brakes

   Lack of concentration.
I'm not sure that is how RedRobin and Hurdy will see it.

....I'd rather have good brakes and not need them, than need them and not have them!

If you've got going power, you also need stopping power.

Remaps
There are various remaps that are available. Revo tends to be a popular one, with the select switch you can change between maps. There are many remap companies out there and all do a very similar job. Remapping an ED30 makes a massive difference and is a definate must in my book. All come in around £500.

LSD
I would love a limited slip diff. Quaife and Peloquin do one and both do a similar job. I get wheelspin all the way through 2nd in the dry and in the wet I have had wheelspin in 4th at 80mph   An LSD would make a massive difference to the overall performance of the car . I think they are about £1200-£1300 fitted.

Exhaust
I have a full milltek non-res turbo-back on mine. It made a massive difference straight away, it felt like the engine could breathe a lot more. It makes a massive difference if you have it done with the map. I had my map tailored to suit the milltek, this gives the best BHP gains. The noise that it makes is great! The resonated does not sound that much different than the standard system which is why I went for the non-res. It is completely sedate when driving normally but when being pushed it emits some wonderful notes. Just getting a cat-back will not make much difference in performance, the only think that will change is the noise, as long as you go for non-res. If you are going to do it you may as well do it properly and go for thr full system. Mine cost me just under £1200 fitted.

Brakes
The brakes are quite a let down on the ED30. I have an R32 set up which im waiting to put on mine. There are a few sets floating round e-bay. I got mine for £400 (front and backs) plus £80 for powdercoating them red and an additional £100 for fitting. This is a relatively cost effective way of improving the stock system on the ED30. There are aftermarket kits such as AP racing that do kits for the GTI but you are into the realms of big money there which I do not have to spend. I am sure Red Robin can elaborate more on such systems.

....^^^^Great post, buddy :afro:

....Just so you know - You need to stop the car and switch off ignition to then use the switch between stock and performance maps.

....Quaife DSG LSD costs about £1,500 including installation and vat.

....R32 discs are heavy. But the aftermarket alternatives such as Tarox and AP Racing are much more expensive. You actually only need to do front brakes and 4-pot.

Thanks, Im guessing the LSD will be same price for a manual. So i could just get the Cupra brakes on the front and possibly leave the backs for the time being? Are the Cupra fronts 4-pot  :undecided:

Ive got an uncle thats a mechanic and a mate who works for VW that im sure are more than capable of helping me out with certain things :D
sorry but my vaux looks far better than the mk5 gti, thats why i bought it  faster too

....The standard Quaife diff for Manual is only slightly cheaper (approx £100 cheaper IIRC). Fitting this is NOT something you should attempt at home! Or even a workshop that hasn't already got experience. IMO.

....Almost!

After sending a Manual version diff but in the correct packaging, Quaife quickly manufactured a DSG one but it's an exclusive version to VW Racing. It arrived late! The down side of working with VW Racing is that plans and timeframes keep changing (this was made clear from the start and I have no problem with this). The up side is their expertise and high standards backed up by their ability through their contacts to solve any problems which may arise. They are dedicated VW specialists and I don't believe my GTI could be in better hands.

I should have my car back tomorrow night and we shall be arranging a session at Bruntingthorpe in the near future just to 'educate' me about the diff.

I'll start a new thread when there is something to report.

I don't know :undecided:

You turn your back for a minute and everyone takes the p!ss out of you  This is something I'd never do to anyone else on here  :lipsrsealed:

Edition30 - sure 10 pots normally have ££££££££££££££ signs all over them, but I was offered them fitted for £1k and so it would have been rude to refuse. What RR and Tom have said about 4 pots being all that is needed is probably true and I would recommend them, but they are relatively expensive too. An R32 conversion for the front is the cheapest way to get a decent upgrade, but again there is a small penalty with loading up the unsprung weight of the car that goes with it.

There are a few companies doing aftermarket exhausts for the ED30 and I think that I would only entertain a Milltek or the APR versions. Going for a cat-back only will get you added sound, but that is about all you will get. The extra power and sharper throttle reponse comes from opening up the downpipe and getting the high flow sports cat.

Tom is just about spot on with the diff options, although peloquin is a little cheaper than Quaife.

ARB's are a real transformer of the handling and feel of the car. I have Autotech lightweight ARB's both front and rear. The emphasis needs to be made that altering the ARB's can alter the balance of the car and either make it understeer less or more. I feel that it makes the car more agile and stable, with a better turn in and exit feel from corners.

Suspension mods, Induction kits, Forge DV, Torque arm insert, intercoolers...the list you could go for is quite extensive really. :nerd:

Thanks T88OMM big help there. Liking the sound of being able to switch maps as I imagine 300hp is abit of a handful for everyday driving. The R32 brake set-up seems to be the way forward as Ive seen Hurdy's sig and I can just about make out some red calipers out amongst all them pound signs flashing up

Looking for a full time job at the moment and keeping my part-time job aslo to get the funds rolling, will be alot of effort but well worth it I can imagine.

300bhp is absolutely not handful for everyday driving!!!!

The guy that works for VW is also in charge of some sort of race team, wasnt really listening as it was on a night out. I would probably opt for it fitting by the pros though as if something does go wrong I can take it back to them then. Smaller things he will be fine doing :D
