I'm shortly gonna be replacing the standard airbag wheel in my colour concept with a momo race wheel. I've heard somewhere that I need a special boss rather than a standard momo mk3 one. Anyone know any more on this and is there anything I ought to look out for before I start pulling things to bits?

I would pm kells about momo bosses (i think he had issues with getting his to fit or getting the right one?) oh and you will need a resistor to turn the bag light out as I'm unsure if momo bosses come with these as std?

(oh yeah ...... more Selby mk3's on here )

i read on the net that a 3.3 ohmn resistor is needed to turn the light off. so i have just borrowed one from work. if the light goes off when i fit this, then it is definetly the slip ring at fault. if it stays on then it must be the airbag control unit at fault.
am i right in thinking this??
also, i read that the airbag control unit can be reset, can vagcom do this?

Sorted  Got 3 smaller resistors soldered together at work and luckily everything has fallen into place very neatly. Result.

Screw the MOT test, you realise they are a safety feature?

Coupled with the seatbelt, that thing could save your life. It only takes some idiot on the other side of the road to make a bad decision to overtake. Both at 30, you're hit with one hell of a smash.

No it's not part of the MOT, if you're worried, disconnect the light, noone will bother checking.

DO remember what the airbag is designed to do.

Air bags are fine in theory but the jury's out as to whether they actually do more harm than good.
If your seat belt tensioner system works correctly you shouldnt get near the steering wheel.

The light should come on for the self test when the ignition is switched on and go out after about 3 seconds if the self test is ok. If it stays illuminated or comes on whilst driving you have a fault.
If the light doesn't come on in this self test it will most probably be just the bulb has blown. Haynes will be covering themselves by saying if the light doesn't come on at all you have a fault and get it checked. The fault will be your bulb has blown (probably) and for legal reasons they will tell you to get it checked out just in case it is a more serious fault.
The unit just pulls out of the dash, and if you're careful you can take them apart and check the bulb.
