Air Bag fault

hi all,

my air bag light came on the other day  :sad:. when i got round to checking it the code was 00588 Airbag Ignition Circuit - Driverside N95. i cleared it, but as soon as i turn the wheel it comes back. i've tried cleaning around the base of the wheel, thinking it may be a poor connection. has anyone had this before??

found out its the slip ring and its on back order at vw.

Same thing happened on mine - got a second hand wheel complete with ring for £15.....

just tried the one off my donor car and it still the same  :cry:. Last time i spoke to vw it was on back order £6, gonna give them a call tomorrow. would this fail mot because of the airbag light being on???

yep its an mot failure...and quite a common issue (as it gets gunked up with all sorts of interior badness!!) try gsf or euro etc as they can etc most vw "main dealer only" bits

tried gsf & ecp, they don't do it. call vw today, they said £93  :sick:, its gonna have to wait

I swapped over the slip ring and wheel from my donor car today, to see if there was any difference. No, its still the same, gonna try and get at the airbag control unit and try that.

Airbags are not part of the MOT test, so you will not fail for having the airbag light on.

You might at the worst get an advisory note, but they cannot fail you for the light being lit.

that probably depends on the mood of the tester and on the garage used.
To be on the safe side, id remove the bulb, that way, it doesn tocme on!

No it definately cannot depend on the mood of the tester or the garage used, airbags are not part of the mot test.

Check the details on the MOT tester site.

If you think about it the only way to do a definitive test on the airbag system would be to set them off, it would make an interesting sight.

I fully checked this out before removing the airbags on my car because I also thought they would be part of the mot test and was surprised to find they aren't.
