BTW I am on variable length, car now at 20K miles.

Eeeewwww!

LongLife servicing really is not good for a GTI.  Do you regularly give it some beans?   Or even let the revs regularly rise above 3,000 rpm?  If so, then get it off LongLife, and switch to Time and Distance (T&D) servicing.

  • Hello
Only time it's below 3000 RPM is when it's parked

I only ever drive on the paddles and thrash it given every available opportunity. *
I do a lot of miles (mostly motorway) and thought that cost of ownership would be lower on long life.
Clearly not if they charge twice the price though !

Oil has not dropped from full since the day I got it

*(clearly subject to road conditions and only where it is safe and legal)

  • Hello
Thrash is a relative term. I mean I don't use the launch feature at EVERY traffic light I stop at but I do open her up quite regularly.
Lets face it there would be no point buying a Bison horn flute if you were not going to blow it

Yes, I did think after I'd posted that I'd probably overreacted/misinterpreted your language.

Then you are clearly not able to comply with the specific operating requirments of the LongLife servicing regime, and therefore, you would be very strongly advised to change to T&D servicing (but still use the higher quality LongLife oils).

Regarding costs, with the T&D service, then you only have to have an extra oil and filter change at 12 months or 10k miles, and should be had for around £55-65, if you use the price-match facilty, and even cheaper if you supply your own oil at cost prices.

Come resale time, and many potential owners who have "read up" and done some research, will know that the GTI really does need to be on T&D servicing, rather than LongLife - and whilst it is questionable weather T&D servicing will "add value", it will most certainly add to the desireablity.

  • Hello
Thanks for the info, It's going in on the 23rd Sept so i'll see if I can have the service scheme swapped.

OK.  If the muppets at the stealers are unable to change the service regime, then you can change it yourself to T&D.
