Interesting Komeda...

Any particular reason you didn't go for the full Milltek package? Also, why not a Janspeed cat back? (or did they not do one)?

I had the Milltek down pipe to start off with but after a couple of weeks of driving it the throttle response still felt a bit flat, I had the map changed but still no difference.

....I had my Milltek Hi-flow+Downpipe system well before a remap and instantly felt an improved throttle response.

The throttle was better but still took to long to respond and felt a bit fluffy (for want of a better word) thats why I went for a change to the map to start off with as that was the most likely cause but it still didn't change. After changing the downpipe the revs build quicker and the throttle is snappier. No idea why that it but the car is certainly different, sounds different to.

from the different forums you can see that Milltek have been a market leader for perf/exhausts but now that tide maybe turning.
Theres more people willing to look at the other manu's now due to a drop in quality and reliability issues, which is a shame.

....I've heard stories of quality but not reliability issues. Can you expand on this at all please? I'm in close contact with Milltek currently and would like to discuss it.

Thanks

It was something i had posted some time ago about the mk5 downpipes warping due to heat, some of the mounting brackets breaking off. These are things that make me think now before buying as you will note as its the only thing i haven't mod'd yet and its norm one of the 1st things to be done when embarking on the slippery slope.

....I know first-hand that they had some issues with mounting brackets because they rather unwisely didn't use stainless ones as they now do. If you contact them they'll replace the brackets foc 01332 227280.

Millteks were my first mod too. :afro: Hope this helps.

Has anyone on here got / heard / been in a car with an AWE exhaust fitted? If so, what are your thought/opinions?

I know that the Regal Golf MK5 demonstrator has the AWE downpipe and sportcat fitted with a Miltek cat-back, and will probably go see this on Tuesday, but just wanted to see if anyone on here has experience of it!

Thanks!

White GTi, don't know if you have checked out the Awe Tuning website (link below), there are some video clips that give a good idea of what the system sounds like. They seem to have gone for a very unrestricted system by deleting the rear silencer altogether and have just used a centre silencer, could be a good way of increasing power but I bet it's loud! (a little hard to tell from the video clip) sounds very raspy though, I'm looking for a deeper exhaust note with more character something more like a V6 or boxer, not sure if this can be achieved with an FSi engine.

Here are some other companies that do exhausts for MK5 GTis that look interesting:

You, my friend, are a legend! I shall have a look at this later on.

Yeah been looking at the AWE website, also interesting that they have kept a 2.5" tubing diameter, and the power graphs that show how badly the car is affected by a 3" system was very interesting.

Heard about the Jetex system - its quite new isnt it...  but when i clicked on retailers it only comes up with Halfords......seems a little chavtastic to me?!

The APR RSC exhaust was very nice - had a gorgeous rasp, and wasnt too loud. Looking forward to seeing and hearing a Miltek on Saturday at the Rolling Road meet, but like you, i want an exhaust with character, not just a louder version of the standard exhaust!

Yep not sure about Jetex as a brand, always associated it with chavs in the past but it looks a nice system, so will keep an open mind. Supersprint also looks a quality system.

I’m still pining after the engine and exhaust note of my previous car an Alfa GT 3.2 which was the same engine as in the GTAs, even at idle it sounded very special and a few blips on the loud pedal made me realise what an fantastic engine it was (shame about the lousy build quality of the rest of the car though) There were 2 glorious sounds to listen to, the engine and exhaust. I fear that the FSi will never develop the kind of sound you will want to hear along with the exhaust, on the contrary I want an exhaust that burbles at tick over to hide the diesel-like clatter from the injection system but is quiet at 3-3500rpm when in 6th on the motorway. If you look at the graph for the Awe exhaust at idle it’s as quiet as the standard exhaust.

I like the look of the Bastuck systems the way there are 2 separate tail pipes from the backbox and not just a 1 into 2 ‘y’ piece like most others (except Milltek I think). The Bastuck system is 2.75” throughout (same as Milltek although the Milltek has a 3” downpipe) and requires a 70mm to 61mm reducer if you opt for the cat back system. I also wonder if there is a difference in sound between the twin and quad outlet sytems that most companies offer.

Will spend some time looking for sound files, you found any APR ones yet? Would be interesting to know how the sound compares to the Millteks at the RR meet…keep me informed.

Just noticed I missed one off my post, Ragzzon an Italian company very popular with Alfas: http://www.ragazzon.it/
