Help for a newbie - Mk3 Gti 2.0litre 16v
« on: 11 May 2004, 13:40 »
 :(
Gotta an intermitent misfire problem. this usually happens between 3000 and 4000 rpm and when coasting or overrun - trying to keep a constant speed.

Done so far - changed plugs/leads/ dizzie and coil. Done a compression test to check for sticky valve/tappet. Had fault check and taken out the ECU and sent it away to specialist and came back fine.

No difference made by any of these!

So looking for some help or guidance please.

Try fuel pump and ECU relays.  A common fault with mk3's.

Have checked fuel pump - but it cant really be that coz it doesnt happen on full trottle.

Think its a fuel/air problem.

How do i check the ECU Relays?

the relays are in the fuse board (under the dash) they are the square shaped black or silver things and can be replaced by pulling them out

Thanks mate - i 'll give that a go.

Was also advised to check the ECU earths - so looks as if i need to get to grips with the wiring diagrams!
