Again, sorry to have hijacked.

TT, Just got off the phone to Elephant. The lady said that the £70 is only applicable to Autoglass who are their contractors. Should I want to take it away to a third party to fit an OE VW windscreen I would have to foot the bill and Elephant will send me a cheque for £50 (which leave me well out of pocket). Going to try and give trading standards a bell but work is mental today. Anyone got any words of wisdome?

Do you have the energy for this? if so, can you send me a 1 gram sample of whatever chemical substance you have at your disposal?

Some people would and no doubt already have let this go.  I think that I personally would probably go with what they are offering and get on with my life, my rain sensors and auto lights are crap anyway and I still have the OEM one.

How much is an OEM windscreen? will their contribution of £50 make much difference to the price, I am thinking you are likely to have to dip into your pocket for anything from £100-£200 on top?  If autoglass can source a VW OEM one for you? if so how much are they quoting you?

In reality by installing anything other than OEM you may potentially invalidate your cars warranty, if you can get this in writing or quote chapter and verse from your warranty you may strengthen your case.

Surely Elephant by inisisting on using non standard replacement parts are in fact invalidating their own insurance policies? My thinking is that by insisting on using non standard/ non vw approved parts then this by this increases the risk of something going wrong with your car....

Good luck, sorry reviewing my reply its of no help at all really is it. More discursive than anything else.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Alan, just a question, obviously you are covered for your windscreen, but what does it actually say in the policy wording?

I thought of that today, I don't think im going to win this one. It says that they will replace my windscreen with one of the same specification of the one I have. I really cant be bothered any more, If it goes in and looks exactly the same without the VW badge in the corner then fook it, it will do the job.

"If you make a claim for loss or damage to your car, we will only pay the cost of replacing parts needed for the car to meet the manufactures standard specification"

That whats my policy says. Going to call them again in the morning as there is no point doing it now as I will be on hold for hours. Just to see what they have to say about it, but honestly cant be arsed to spend hours fighting it. Has anyone ever had a good experience with an insurance company? Its f**king day light robbery what us young drivers have to pay and then they try every fooking thing in the book not to pay, what a bunch of cvnts.

and is the windscreen you currently have, what comes as standard when you buy your car?
basically they will say that you just need a windscreen, but then you can go back and say, yes but that is not the standard windscreen for my model of car..
if thats right of course..
yup...all robbing bar stewards...
