Yes , from 55 plate approx, the buttons on the wheel reversed sides. My 05 laser blue had buttons oposite to those fitted in my 07 edition 30 and my brief ownership of my steel grey GTi.
The window wiper stalk had a switch on the top (same as the cruise control on opposite side) which you used to access the Highline multifuntion menus, rather then being on the wheel currently fitted

interesting robin, my laser blue was May 05 and has this set up and mine had highline fitted whereas yours only has midline.  perhaps dates are closer then we think.That one has buttons in reverse to yours.If you look closely, you can see.Volume up/down on the right side instead of current left.

....I chose MidLine instead of HighLine (don't ask!! :rolleyes: - A mistake!).

If you look at mine again you'll see that my sound volume up/down is on the left. The up/down arrows on the right are scroll buttons.

Although I have the highline I think the layout of the DSG display is more logical on the midline as it reflects the layout of the shifter itself.  On the highline it's displayed horizontally.

Oh, and my MFSW buttons are laid out with volume/phone controls on the left and MFD controls on the right.

I have an (55), car registered in September 2005. though the vin shows it as an 06 model.  Volume buttons are on the left, MFD controls on the right.  The buttons are the same as Reds. So...when did the buttons change to this type? on the 06 Model? Purely out of geeky interest you understand....  :smiley: :nerd:

clive, you state your car is a 06, does the vin code have a 5 or 6 in the 10th place?....I think its the 10th place, if my old memory serves me.  Or have we established that your mfsw was retrofitted? check inside your service booklet theres a load of codes in there, you should have one that states (1MS) this translates in vw code terms to "leather steering wheel with Tiptronic" and as far as I can ascertain this means if you have that code on your page then your car was factory built with MFSW.

Other codes, from mine as below. The 3 digit code appears, not the description ...I got that from some reference web site or other.

B0N = component parts set, complying with vehicle type for Great Britain, various parts

1G9 = space-saving spare wheel for temporary use, radial tire (5-hole)
1MS = leather steering wheel with Tiptronic

5RV = outer right rear view mirror: non-spherical
5SJ = outer left rear view mirror: convex
T59 = components for, base engine, unit 06F.C
0BF = rear stabilizer
3U3 = luggage compartment cover with luggage net
